Memory question

RelicDigger1

New member
I've read just now on an online ad where the F75 has an optional memory to remember the previous settings. Can anyone tell me where this is? I have a very early numbered, pre-upgrade 75, if that makes a difference.

Do they have a memory setting? I went through the manual again to no avail. Nothing mentioned (that I saw at a glance, anyway) of a way to set the memory.

I've simply been setting the unit each time I turn it on.

Ideas?

Richard

There must be a problem with your detector, because it is supposed to remember all your settings, from disc to number of tones without you having to do anything. What settings are you refering to? You WILL always have to set the ground balance at startup, because it changes from location to location, but all the other settings will remain in the unit as long as you don't reboot it:blowup:

The settings I'd like to save is F7 frequency, which defaults to F4 upon restart. But the disc side sens, dic, mode and notch remain.

Thinking about it, just the frequency has to be reset. The ad was probably referring to these, teh disc, sens, etc. I was just looking for a means to save the frequency setting, if I could.

In fact every darn setting you put in the detector it saves. Every now and then I reset the detector, which
eliminates all the settings you have put in your detector. I like to get rid of all the settings I have put in and
start over. Before you turn detector on, push the red button and push the switch forward at the same time
then turn on the detector. This will reset the detector back to it's original settings.

I also like to hunt in all metal. Try it you might like it.

I've been experimenting with all metal the past couple of trips out. Actually it may surprise some people to use AM. That and the different frequencies. Did you know you can pick up buttons better in one frequency then lose it in another? ;-)

Been doing a lot of experimenting on the 75's lately.

But I'll give that a go on the settings, Ring, see what happens.

Appreciate it.

RelicDigger - what frequency seems to work best for buttons? I use F7 alot and it seems to work alright. Thanks for the post.

Hi JB, I've found that from F5 to F7 are usually the hottest on buttons. I discovered this one day when I was out covering ground that had been hammered within (or beyond) an inch of its life. Not finding anything, I thought it wouldn't hurt to swap frequencies. So I peeled it over to F5.

I've seen some amazing things detectors have done in my 30+ years of digging. But when I made one sweep with the machine in 5 it was like a new camp. One step forward and that one sweep resulted in a carbine bore brush, two eagle buttons and a three ringer.

Since, I've learned F7 seems to be the hottest, overall, for brass.

Years ago I saw a chart that showed what frequency was hottest for which type of metal. Brass came in around 14 khz. My thinking was that I would take the 75's frequency closer to that 14.

As far as 5 and 6, I went back over the same ground after pummeling it with F7. More eagle buttons came out for a total of 25 in an area that had been given up by most.

I'm working with the lower freqs right now to see what they respond best to. But right now, I use F5-7.

Best of luck out there.

According to page 23 of the F 75 manual, "The F 75 will retain any changes in the frequency setting, even after powered off." So, set it and forget it until you are ready to try another frequency.

Well, I just tried changing my frequescies on my F 75 and it WILL NOT retain the new settings upon powering down the machine, in spite of what the manual claims. Amyone else experiencing this situation?

The frequency resets itself when I turn off my F75 too. All other adjustments stay where I set them, just not the frequency shift.

Best of luck on the hunt in Tenn. Keep us posted on how you do. The trick with swapping frequenices seems to be to find the one with the least external interference. The manual calls for a switch to all metal, listen for the clearest tone as you go through the freqs and then put the disc side on that freq.

But I've found the higher freqs to be best on brass. Give it a go and see if it works for you as well.

On the freq setting the others were mentioning, mine resets to F4 upon shut down.
