sometimes we do things the way we want to do them and they are fruitless. Then we listen to the still small voice inside and we figure 'what have I to lose' and in that thought of losing we gain, as you did.

Playgrounds are usually pretty good at producing. In a small town as this we have only a couple elementary schools and small public playgrounds. They get hammered pretty hard. When I do those places I go not to find an abundance of coins but to see what others who were there before me missed. If I come out with one coin then I feel good that I found something someone else missed. But if my perspective was to clean up on all the coins and walk away with one then I feel bad about only getting one coin after a lot of work.

The ball field I go to is an unknown to many. I know there are lots of old coins there and other things. I don't go expecting to come home with loads of coins but finding a single old coin makes me feel good and reminds me there is still more to be found.

A farm field would for me have to have been researched and know something old used to be there before I would spend a day detecting there. Then I would be expecting to find old relics more than coins...though old coins are always nice to find.

One key to successful detecting is knowing where people have been. More kids use that playground and lose money than there are kids or even adults who go out to a farm field. One time I would hit a farm field hard where no people have been is where they used to dump the contents of those septic tank sucking trucks...before they had to stop doing that for environmental and health reasons. If I could find where they had been dumping that stuff for years...I'd give up that ball field in a heart beat. The amount of lost jewelry and coins lost into septic systems then sucked into those trucks and then spread over a field somewhere would be worth it and more. I heard of one guy who had found such a place. He came back to show a detector dealer he bought a detector from just for that purpose, all the cigar boxes of jewelry and old rings he had found. Needless to say the dealer was speechless.

Just a couple tips.
