no nothing about detectors. want to buy metal detector for my fathers retirement. he would be using it in the mountains and on the beaches. what is a good all around detector, price range $500 - 600 <img src="/metal/html/confused.gif" border=0 width=15 height=22 alt=":?"> <STRONG></STRONG>

A Minelab Sovereign is about that price range, and is an excellent detector at the beach and in mineralized mountain areas as far as depth and stability. You should check this machine when you are looking at the machines people here have mentioned.
 
YOUR BEST BET WOULD BE TO BUY THE SOV. ELITE MADE BY MINELAB. IT WILL GO DEEPER THAN THOSE ALREADY MENTIONED ABOVE. ITS GOOD AT THE BEACH, AND ANY TYPE OF SOIL. ITS ALSO SIMPLE TO USE AND IT FITS THE PRICE RANGE.A BETTER DETECTOR WOULD BE THE EXPLORER 2 BUT ITS NOT IN THE PRICE RANGE THAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. GOOD LUCK AND HH
