metal detectors left in Trunk and heat

Personally , I wouln't leave my detector in a hot trunk . I always carry mine in the back seat . Here in Arizona , the temp in a car trunk can get over 180 degrees ! That can melt plastic and wire coatings . I would carry it inside with the A/C if possible . :detecting:

I agree with Quartsize. Most manuals will tell you not to leave in the trunk or hot car. That could even void a warranty.

You manual will list the heat ranges your tector can handle before suffering a heat stroke. :) I leave two or three in the back of my van all the time but they aren't enclosed like in a trunk.

Yeah I used to live in Phoenix, plus Las Vegas and know all about that blistering heat. In the middle of summer they used to take a TV camera crew down on Central Ave. in Phoenix and fry eggs on the sidewalk. Wonder if they still do that.

How come the plastic and coating on the wires in your truck don't melt? Taillights come to mind too. Some trunks have CD changers also and they work. The only thing I can think of it might hurt would be the lcd screen. If I leave my cell phone in a locked car the screen looks washed out till it cools off. The inside of a locked car gets hot too and there are a lot of onboard computers, plastic, radios, and electronic components that it doesn't hurt.

I used to cook my lunch while I worked by putting a can of ravioli or such on the dashboard. It would get to about 140 by lunchtime.

Not trying to argue, just curious.

Unless you run some cold air to your trunk from your cars air conditioner, or an ice pack in a sleeping bag wrapped up around your detector, there is no other way. How's about a 6-pac of cold beer

My 2500 insists on riding up front. Darned Treasure Talk. Take yours in at night. Too many stories here about stolen detectors here.

My metal detector is in the house every night. Can not afford to have any of them pull a disappearing trick. They all have their special place in the house and in the field. If you have the right tool for the Job it makes things a LOT easier...
