Mfg ? on E Trac

grumpy

New member
Morning folks. I had a couple of ?s come to mind about the E trac. For years I hunted with Minelab and health and things i got away from it. Questions are the last I heard the new line or all minelabs were being made in Tawan or? out of Aust. is that right and if so where are they actually made now?
Also the last minelab I had was a problem child and the fact at the time was getting really slow with repairs ; is the repair speed and cost back like it used to be when they were quick and reasonable in LV. ??
Last is the E trac ( one i have not owned yet) a reliable track record as far as maintance??

Thanks much for the help

They used to be made in Ireland, but the company was bought out and manufacturing moved to Malaysia. Been there for a while, and there havent been reports of the "new" machines having any problems or lower quality.
Minelab used to have fast repairs? Must have been before my time, I have heard a lot of complaints about slow turn around times from the people who have sent units in to be worked on.

FYI
Recently found out a classic American purse manufacturer (COACH) was making purses in China!
Well, that was quite a shock and many women receiving these purses as gifts assumed they were fakes
But untrue and I ended up getting quite a bargain at the thrift store

My point is the times are a changing but although location has changed the quality seems the same

Thanks to all; I appreciate the info; Yes in the Old days; not so old just a few years ago it seems less than ten when the show was ran in Las Vegas and Gus was in customer service I could send in a machine from colorado and in just ten days or two weeks it was back. Then it got to be 6 or 8 weeeks and Gus was gone and so goes progress or whatever big business calls it.
I understand modern times even at my age its the evolution of sending things to dif countries and economic effects of big companies buying out things and the first thing they do is move the company to save money and make more from cheaper labor. I dont think it is just totally a quality issue, probally just an old age (mine) issue but it is a consideration.

One more thing: having several explorers over the years how does the e trac compare? is it really overall superior?
Thanks I appreciate the help and info.

Minelab dream to sale new detectors for very high price, this is why its so slow in repairing, at least I think like this because I do my self all repairs and I know that most problem is very simple to repair. my suggestion buy second hand Etrac because its better construction for keeping circuit boards in control panel and last longer compare to explorer. but basicaly its still the same Explorer,a bit faster and with other improvements for detecting.

Ok let me open the BOX.I love my Etrac!!! but haveing to send it in takes 6 weeks!!!.....I have a WHites V3I and I had to send it in to have a Tune up,9 Days later I received it back in a new box with a extra rechargeble battery.,I just wish that ML had customer svc such as this.I did not want to start MINE IS BIGGER contest as I have the 2 best machine out IMO.I just wished for what we pay for our Equipment we were treated better as the consumer, now I am not dogging, or even like to compare 1 company to another I just wished that all companys would operate such as the 1 in SWEET HOME>

I sent my Etrac in almost a month ago and it took 10 buisiness days to get it back, they are much improved from what they were a couple years ago.
But just to be honest with you, even if it took 2 months for repairs I'll still never own another brand of machine.
I love Minelabs.

in my view anything made in china is a 'gamble"
but you could also say "life" is a gamble too!
well!.".roll the dice!" lets play! just sayin'

(h.h.!)

China? Nobody ever said that Minelabs were made in China.

The E-Trac isn't an Explorer it's a new category unto itself from Minelab according to them. I tried it once and immediately sold my Explorer 2 it was that much better for me I thought. Most of the important buttons are on the face and programing is much simpler more intuitive. Larger easier to see screen with icon and your discrimination pattern and digital readings easier on older eyes to see. Many other improvements to mention but just try one out you won't be sorry.
