I have a friend who is loaning me the use of his Condo somewhere right on the beach in the north Miami area this coming Feb. I'll be taking my MXT with me and hope to do some detecting for at least a week in that area. I'm new to this forum and also new to beach hunting. Not to many beaches here in Colorado. Would appreciate any suggestions on settings to use on the MXT and also beach hunting. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum RJ. If I were hunting the beaches, I would start off in Coin & Jewelry mode, have my gain set at 7-8, my discrimination (duel control) at 2, and the threshold just so it's barely audible. Hope this helps and keep us posted on how it goes. I wish you lots of luck and HH, Nancy

A good sand scoop w/ handle is important and IMHO - a must on the beach. Lots of coins on the beach and this expedites retreiving them and saves you having to bend up/down 100 times. Lots of bottlecaps and 
too. Clear tape on the speaker holes (if using headphones) keeps sand out. Small unused paint brush helped clean the MXT after the hunt. I carried my cellphone in a zip-lock bag to keep it sand free and carried another so that i could use the bag to place over the control box if it started to rain. Good luck. I loved hunting at the beach. CCHWish I was on the beach right now. Got up this morning to get the paper and it was 9 degrees and fresh snow in the yard. Since the elevation at my house is 8,460 that might have something to do with it. I liked your idea about the paint brush to clean the machine. As for carrying other "stuff" my wife and I each have a lightweight CCW vest to put all our gear such as cell phone, GPS, and .357 S&W. In the forests around here you never know when you're going to run into a bear, mountain lion, or meth head growing pot.
