MickTwin Gets 1st Silver Coin! (applause here...)

OK, OK, so it's no big deal for most of you, but for me - MickTwin (a rookie), after several hunts in yards around my area I finally got my first silver today: a 1929 Merc and I'm stoked!

It was relatively shallow at 3 inches. I was using my new Delta 4000 in discriminate mode. Notched out everything, but 5c,10c,25c, and 50+. I got a solid hit 84-85. Double checked using All Metal 1 (also read 85+ or-). A real easy dig.. plenty of the clad coins I've dug have been deeper. I usually don't notch out as much as I did, but I was getting tired of digging foil.

So, anyway, I get the first silver (of my life) and jim tn gets his 99th (of the year)... Got some catchin up to do!!!

Congratulations Mick Twin on your first silver and to be a mercury dime how nice, to me the mercury dime is the presttiest silver coin to find at least for a dime its my favorite.Keep up the good work with your Delta...Markmac

Congrats Mick!---It's ALWAYS exciting finally silver--be it the first, or the next one of hundreds of 'em.----That's a very nice Merc you found!---To me, the two most beautiful U.S. coins ever minted are the Mercury dime & the Walking Liberty half (both sculpted by the same designer, Adoloph Wineman).---------Del

Mick, congrats. My first silver coin 38 years ago was a Merc. as well. Funny thing about finding silver. I get just as excited with each one I find today as I did with the first one back in 72. Good luck, there is still more out there and old yards are excellent spots for them. HH jim tn

Congratulations. Silver really feels good to find. Even finding two hundred year old coppers doesn't really do it for me like silver.
Keep it up!

I would not notch and I would use a low disc

Way to go Mick Twin. Still looking for my first. Congrats bro!
