Mine doesn't seem to detect gold earings

I got my new Safari and have been doing to some testing with it indoors to try and get familiar with the sounds and it's operation.

Passed various coins and different types of metal across the coil.

Then tried some jewelry with it.

Does not seem to pick up a Gold Earring at all, I tried a small gold pinky ring I bought my wife before we got married and it didn't seem to pick that up either!

It does pick up our wedding bands and her engagement ring just fine, seems just thin gold it has issues with. I think I saw another post about this somewhere.

I have the 11" dd coil on it but might want to look for a smaller one.

Does anyone know if I get a smaller coil if it will help detect smaller gold items?

Not too many machines are gonna hit gold earrings.
I just got the 6" DD EXcelerator coil and it hits small gold a BUNCH better than the 11" Pro Coil.
I have found about 50 small gold and silver earrings with a brand X dedicated gold machine.
In "all metal" the 6" coil on the Safari hits every one of them at about 3"in the air.

Thanks bogolhorns,
Just currious. The targets you can detect at 3" in the air with the 6" Excelerator, are the the same targets you cannot pick up at all with a stock 11" coil?

Correct, the 11" will not detect them.
