I just bought one and had no Idea of its weight.but was impressed I was able to run sen to 30 and was stable I have explorer 2.I was burying the depth meter in my yard on junk targets I know that the depth meter on other coils is not always right compared to the stock coil.Do a lot of people use that coil if so tell me how well you like it.

The 8" is much lighter and just as deadly as the 10 1/2.
5" works well in cane fields and 10 1/5 works well in the woods when searching for relics.
Most relics I find are 7 or less inches so the 5 gets it done!
I would like to try the 5" coil.

I use the Minelab 8 most all of the time. It runs stable, goes deep and is a pleasure to pinpoint with. I also bought a used Sunray 8 and honestly can't see a difference between the two, different ground conditions it may be an advantage though. You definately should pick up a 5 inch also. It is perfect for tight areas, like around roots of trees or close to foundations, etc. It also sounds off no problem at items in the 6-7 inch deep range.

I was using it at the old farmstead and got a good hit. Dug and dug and from the very tip of my finger to the object it was over my elbow. It was a small metal round horse thingy you put the stirrup or whatever through.

Always use it. Found two of my best coins with it on. Great depth fantastic pinpointing. Good target separation in high trash areas. What more can you want!

If you know anyone who has the joey coil you might want to try it.I use it all the time for around trees and small places.Found some deep coins with it.

Pinpoints great and is lighter. I like it in the woods cause it's easy to get around trees. Only time I use the stock coil is in wide open fields like schools and farmfields. Surprisingly you only loose a very small amount of depth with the smaller coil.

I have been using the 8 inch ML coil on my original XS since 2001 and have always had great success with it.

It is especially good for us woods hunter in getting around all the obstacles. It pinpoints better than the stock coil in my opinion and with that if you want to reduce weight more, than the X-1 accessory is not quite as necessary.

Probably 75% of all my good finds with the XS since 2000 have been found while using the ML 8 inch.

However, if I find I am at a homestead where instead of finding most relics and coins in the 4-8 inch range which is normal, that they are 8+, I will always go back and search the same site with the stock coil for possible mop up finds that might be a little bit deeper.

I can say over the years there have been a few finds that I am sure the 8 inch would not have picked up, but that has been the exception.

For beach and open field hunting though, I think the stock coil is the wiser choice initially and then when you are in where perhaps a homestead or work area was in the field, come back with the 8 inch and very slowly hit the heavy iron area for those missed goodies.

I did compare my XS with the 8 inch coil against my son's Fisher's CZ70 and my old Garrett GTA1000 and Fisher Excel ID.

The 8 inch coil on my XS is equal to the Fisher with the stock CZ70 from all the comparisons we have done over the years.

The 8 inch coil on my XS is better in depth by a few inches against the Excel ID and GTA1000!

In other words, I like the 8 inch. :)

I know I have dug some coins around the 10" mark with this Coil and it is so much easier and lighter to swing than the Stock 10.5" Coil. I usually use this Coil when it High Trash Area's because it gets excellent separation of Targets. The only problem with this Coil is that it isn't Waterproof which I really don't know why Coiltek didn't make them Waterproof??? But still a KILLER COIL if you know what to listen for and how to wiggle in between Targets to sniff out the Good Targets from the Bad Targets. Good Luck and HH.
