Minelab Are You Listening

Don't you hate when something like that happens? I know I would, especially when you had to chop down that far to recover it. But than again, at least you got out for a little while. If the snow ever stops up here, I am going to go and do some detecting, even if there is about 3"-4" of snow left on the ground. I need to get out!!! Hope to see some finds soon and the frost leave at that.

Yes, it is a DD coil and is really light weight. You can swing this coil all day without fatigue, that is for sure. And it gets great depth too. It is pretty close to the same depth as the stock coil I would have to say. If there is any difference in depth, it would probably be only an inch or so I would think. I have one and it is the second coil I use next to the stock coil.

... Since I've never seen anyone take off the probe. Not once. Anyone out there that has done this and kept it off?
Any deals out there on your old Sun Ray probe? :D

I have taken mine off. Obviously, it remains to be seen whether it remains off or not.
Just wanted to "round out" your experiences. There IS someone out there that has taken it off.

Mike,

It didn't loose as much weight as I had hoped. It's only about 6 oz. lighter than my Explorer II but much stronger. Don't feel the Explorer wobble as you swing the coil.

Here is a close-up of the back of the machine. Made it so the rear assembly can easily be removed to break the detector down for traveling. Battery cable can be unplugged and charged in housing, no need to remove it. Stuffed with 2500s for extra long battery life.

That is quite the modification you have done to your detector. How long did it take for you to make the battery department and what kind of shaft did you use for your cool looking set-up?

Since I'm fairly new being an Explorer II user I'd have to say the things that need to be fixed in the Explorer are minimal but do need to be fixed, these include:

*The lower and upper shaft - They're not THAT weak, mostly its the lower one which bothers me a bit since it wobbles with the larger coils 10.5"+. Maybe making them out of ABS resin which is extremely strong, or making the lower one out of ABS Plastic and the upper out of Reinforced Aluminum/Steel.

*The Arm Cuff - Plastic isn't really bad, but eventually it will break due to wear or force so they should make it out of reinforced Aluminum/Steel and perhaps padding it to make it more comfortable with Memory Foam (also known as ''Space Foam'') which is cheap and extremely comfortable.

*The Weight - It's not a problem for me, but some do complain... I don't know how it can be slimmed down, Atkins diet maybe?

Other than that I like the Explorer just as it is.
