Minelab coils

Is it possible to use a Explorer or Excalibur/Soverign coil on a PI machine ? Or even a GP series coil ?
Capela

For the most part Don is correct. The Explorer, Soverign coils are not PI designed coils.
A GP is a PI detector.
Certain PI coils can be made to work on other than designed PI units. The Goldquest SS, and the Goldscan 5 can use the GP series coils.

Thanks Mr.Bill...and Don for your answers !
I'm trying to find a good coil for a PI (home-made) and the only coils i have here, are from my Explorer and my Sand Shark !
I was thinking to get a Garret Hunter II or a Infinitium coil ...but still looking for a used and cheap one !
Capela

Only in certain cases can you use other coils on PI's. In the case of the Garrett, you cannot use the SeaHunter 11 PI coil or it will damage the electronics. The Sand Shark is a PCB Sprial coil which is an oddball and would probably fit nothing. I think it maybe possible to use a White's PI coil on the SS, it may work, but actually the dampening resister should be change. I would suggest you not put any other coil on a different detector, you may lose the detector. You can go to "Geotech" website if you want to learn some about making coils and I think Gary sells some. Don

Don, the coil is not for the Sand Shark, but for the one i'm building... and i know the Geotech site, i know that you can use almost any PI coil on another PI, but you have to look at coil impedance and changing the dump resistor if need ! i was looking for a mono-coil and the Infinitium has a DD coil, so that's why the hunter would preferable !
The whites one...i'll have to look about it !

Don, this is the Gary's PI that i've built last year and the coil is made of 35 turns of 1mm copper wire, i've made some mods on the amplification stage and the result was quite good, got a new shaft on Ebay and it looks nice !

Hi Capela, your picture did not make it on the post, can you repost it? I am interested in what mods you made to the amplification stage on Gary's PI, can you post them here? Thanks William
