minelab explorer II

I have an explorer II. It's my first Mine Lab. One and only problem: It rejects the ground almost everywhere.(the threshold sound goes down to nothing). If I hold the coil still on the ground the threshold sound comes back. Even lower sensitivity makes NO difference. I sent it in to get it checked.(It is only about 4 months old.) They found no problems. I live in southern Minnesota. Any suggestions will be tryed and appreciated. Thingfinder

If you did not send the coil with it, then take the skid plate off the coil and clean bothe with warmsoapy water.
If its not that then try starting your machine in a different area where the soil is less mineralized like another town. Someplace with different soil and see it it acts the same. BTW I might even go so far as to clear your machine back to factory setting first.
Just a few thoughts. Good Luck

I did send the machine with the coil to be checked out. I have tryed it many different places miles apart. I will try to get it back to all factory settings. Thanks for responding. Thingfinder

Same thing was going on with a friend of mines Ex2 right after he got it. He bought it used, but only about 5 months old. Funny thing is he hunted withit twice before he said anything to me about it. I just shut it off for 15 seconds, then held the on button down while the machine rebooted back to original. (just hold the button until you hear it go through its little song then you can let it go. This solved the problem and its not happened since. Hope this helps you.

SUNSA: You sure give me hope again!!!! I have already printed this message so I can not forget it. Only problem now is the temp. here(It is about 15 degrees now and headed for about "0" tonight. I will definitely try your "MIRICLE CURE". THANK YOU!!!!!! Thingfinder

hit the buttons for iron mask and set it to a -16 as the screen will be all open and try it. Now it will see everything and you will see if the ground you hunt has just too much iron in it to give a good threshold. You do know that any item disc out will null your threshold don't you?

Rick(ND): THANK YOU for your response! I will try that also. I am not sure what you meant by "any item disc out will null your threshold". This is the 1st. Minelab I have ever had. Thanks again. Thingfinder

Hello ThingFinder. If you don't mind me asking, where in Minnesota are you located? Just curious that if you are close enough for me, maybe next spring I could come over to your area and try and help you out with your problem. I could also give you some hands on tips also when you are out detecting. Rick(ND) is right about there being a possibility of too much Iron at the site you have been trying to detect at. What Rick(ND) meant when he said that "any item disc. out will null your threshold", he was trying to tell you that if you have lets say pulltabs discriminated out so the detector will not sound off on them, that this item along with all the Iron will give a moment of silence or as we call a null until you pass over the item or items and the detector senses better conditions in the ground. In Iron Mask -16, you would hear everything in the ground and this would tell you just how much Iron or how many items are in the ground that the detector doesn't give signals on because of either a set pattern you are using or not low enough Iron Mask. Hope this helps and hope you figure out your problem. Good Luck and HH.
