Minelab Explorer questions from iowa

hello,

I had a question to all who use the explorer and are seasoned with it.

I guess my question is that I live here in burlington Iowa and can find nice finds but never seem to find anything below 7 inches i dont know if it is the minerilization in the ground or my setting are wrong or swing speed is too fast?

I use the standard size coil run power at about 22.

Couple of aspects due to your ground do objects sink any deeper than 6-7 inches? Living in Pa. often get 10 inch plus silver dimes, but usually my power as you call it is set higher.
Indeed the mineralization can limit the setting of the sensitivity or perhaps you are not running it high enough when you can. Idea if setting in manual is to set it as high as you can while keeping a stable unit. Heck I would set it at 32 semi-auto sensitivity and let the machine adjust itself..Believe it or not Minelab will tell you under lab conditions 7 inches is about max. depth for an Explorer but I know at least in my neck of the woods 10 inches plus is no problem...

I live in northwest Ia. Spirit lake. Their is only two of us in the area that have an explore and we usually can't run sen. greater than 20---24 and most of are deep coins run 7---9inches. Usually deeper coins that we do on occasion dig up are iffy readings and most of the time its nothing. I did get a silver dime at 9 inches one time. A friend of mine did get a 2 cent piece at 11inches. Most of my indians are at 7-8 inches at average. I believe I dug up 96 siver last year. Not so good this year, havn't been out as much. Keep hunting and go slow and you will find some deep ones.

Thank You for reading my post and giving me your inputs, I dont believe I've ever dug a coin deeper than 8 in other than the sand in which i hit one at almost 10 1/2 but thats sand, anyway thank again for your input.

Eric, I'm in West Cental IL , not too far from you. I've used the Explorer XS for about 3 years now and I love it! Most of my silver finds have come in the 4-7" range. Once in a while I find a deeper coin but it is rare. Last month I found a 1902 dime at 4" and a 1920 SLQ at 9".That quarter at 9" gave a good signal that I don't think anyone would pass up. I think the key to finding deeper coins is going slower. Good luck and HH. Mike
