Minelab+FBS=A screaming silver machine!

A few days ago, I detected this religious medallion and just like other 925 silver items, my Safari literally screamed when the coil passed over it. I've found that smaller silver coins also display a solid 39 and the familiar high pitched scream sound but some other larger silver jewellery items sometimes register lower 35-39. Not sure why but probably shapes/linked as in chain jewellery/alloyed metals in the silver etc; come into play as well. As stated before in previous posts, a silver dollar will come in at around 35 with a lower sound similar to a 1 cent coin but having said that, when I get a 35 and it appears bigger than a 1 cent is, it's either a 1 cent multiple coin spill or one of those very rare occasions...maybe a silver dollar which are very, very hard to find! Then I'll dig. Your thoughts?

Very nice find! I miss the safari I had,and have a 705 now because its lighter.But I'm sure Thinkin I should get it back!

Thanks for the comments!......petew....having had sore arm problems in the past, I used to have a hard time with the weight of the detector as well and my elbow and upper arm got real achy after swinging for more than 2 hrs or so. I think I have developed those muscles that are affected by the action of swinging a detector to the point where it doesn't bother me anymore..

An interesting factoid I wanted to share is that the old English longbow men (I happen to be English by birth BTW)! used to lift weights with their bow arm and they developed the muscles and yes, even those bones that were needed in order to draw the bow string back sufficiently against the power of those long bows. In finding and inspecting the skeletons in I think it was the English flagship the 'Mary Rose' that went down in the English Channel centuries ago, they could tell who were the longbow men by the more developed arm bones. Although I have 2 swingy thingy set ups, I cannot get comfortable with either one.
So........hopefully, if you can get past the initial discomfort, you'll be less fatigued down the line!

I just dig all good sounds. And although sometimes a pain in the butt I dig those 33,34 and 35. There has been a few times when I thought I was digging zinc pennys and ended up with something good. Although I still have issues with digging a 9 I am digging them more now as I here people talking that they have found some gold there.
Finally got out for the first time this years as the temps are rising. Two Mercury's and a silver quarter from 64. Also a silver pendant.

Congrats GS on the silver. I'm in agreement that silver religious medals sing sweetly at tid 39. I also agree that silver dollars (at least in air testing) read 35-36 when I got the Safari about 6 yrs ago. Never found a silver dollar in the field. A '42 Washington quarter on my last hunt was dead on tid 39 in relic /lowdensity/ auto sens...HH

Excellent finds and just what I need to see. My Safari is due for delivery tomorrow. Of course, this weekend the weather guessers are calling for as much as 2 to 4 feet of snow up here. No that was NOT a typo. 2 to 4 feet.

Awesome!! tell us how you get along with it and I'm sure you know there is a sizeable learning curve but well worth it as it will pay off big time with gold and silver!! My Safari paid for itself in a short space of time

Thanks, Goldstrike. I've had an excalibur for about 14 years so I know exactly what you mean about a steep learning curve. One of these days I'll teach that excal how to find rings. LOL

I am liking the Safari as well as the explorer, etrac and CTX I have owned in the past. I love being able to go from coin mode with disc and conductive audio to all metal ferrous with one quick press of a button. The safari hits deep silver and copper as well as any FBS machine IMO.
