Hello all, my name is Marc and I work for the US Army in Germany. I picked up metal detecting again in 2004 after having metal detected as a child with an old Coin Master. I have recently bought an E-Trac after using a White's MXT for the past few years. My M'Ding buddy bought an SE last year and I got tired of him skunking me every time we went out so I thought I would give Minelab a try. The E-Trac is taking some getting used to but I am taking it slow and learning a little more every time I go out. I have only logged about 6 hours on it, but I really like it so far. I do have a tip, on two occasions, my E-Trac refused to power up, totally ruined my second hunt and I thought I was going to have to send it back. I called the dealer and of course he informed me that I should check out the battery pack for any signs of damage or corrosion. I am using alkaline batteries because the rechargeable battery charges with 110 volts and I am in Europe (220 volts) and I haven't bought a transformer for it yet. He told me he had never heard of the problem before. Anyway, no matter what I tried it would not power up so I took the battery pack out and left it alone for about an hour, I came back, slid the pack back in and it powered right up. It is a good habit to remove the battery pack whenever it is not in use and in my case, a necessity. I don
I too started with a whites before i made the jump to minelabs etrac...it was more like a gigantic leap!
I've learned alot along the way, and there are some super cool people on the forums to help along the way. Glad to hear you've sorted your machine and it's working now. HH and keep us posted along the way.
