minelab or whites dfx

New member
Hi, I am new to the forum and to metal detecting. I am thinking about buying either a whites dfx or minelab safari. I live in Arizona and the soil is quit mineralized.
Can anyone suggest which detector would be best? Thanks; Frank

Frank,

My first detector was a DFX and while I don't own a Safari I do run a Minelab Sovereign GT and have run an Elite, Explorer II and SE.

The DFX is a good detector but IMO it's not going to be your best choice for punching through heavily mineralized soil. The DFX's biggest strength is it's ability to customize programs with it's plethora of adjustments.

Minelab's are notorious for being deep seekers but slow machines. The new Safari appears to be using a much faster processor combined with proven Minelab depth.

Minelab does a better job at introducing new tech to the market IMO. The DFX is very old now and is really just a glorified XLT which has been around for even longer.
If you want today's tech from a company that seems to put forth more innovation then go Minelab.

I would definitely read reviews etc. My only fear with the Safari is that like the DFX it's just a glorified version of it's predecessor (Quattro) which hasn't been one of Minelab's most popular products. Hopefully that isn't the case here because I've considered buying one.
