If anyone wants to get the manual in .PDF format, it can be downloaded directly from the Minelab site.

Andy, I have read your find book many times and learned from your efforts. It looks to me from the technical description and what I know of detectors and the use of multiple frequency that the Quatro is going to be one of the best to come down the road in a while. I don't think there is anything new but has been reworked into a very nice package that should be more user friendly.
I am very interested in how they take care of noise rejection with the broad band technology. The channels on the Explorer for noise cancel and semi-auto sensitivity do a very good job. This is one area that will be a major change unless they use the same technology and design as the Explorer.
Anyhow, we all appreciate your fine work and I look forward to getting a Quatro and giving it a run.
HH, Cody

Cody,
The Quattro is based on FBS technology; i.e., Explorer, rather than BBS technology; i.e., Sovereign / Excalibur. There is a NOISE CANCEL touch-pad on the face as well as a duplicate button on the menu screen. When you press either one, you will see the display cycle through the sets of frequencies in steps of 10%; i.e., 10%, 20%, 30% . . . . 100% and then switch back to the Menu or search mode.
As far as sensitivity goes, it is more like the Sovereign in that there is an AUTO setting where the detector will find the level that provides stable operation and a MANUAL range where the operator can select a fixed sensitivity level. This is the way the Explorer works when in the MANUAL mode; i.e., the moving line not shown around the sensivitity value.
Hope this answers your questions . . . . If anyone else has questions feel free to post them or E-mail them to me so I can be sure they are covered in the book on the Quattro coming out in a few weeks (so far they've been in there).

Is there 100% range of discrimination in both Conductive and ferrous? I was talking to someone interested in the Quattro and this is one of the things that would concern me should I be looking at one. I don't agree with the preset programs having different sounds, but that's just how I see it.

Is there an ajustable gain, or is it a fixed setting? If it's preset how would it compare to the Explorer? (number setting)

There is no GAIN adjustment as there is on the Explorer but based on some side-by-side comparisions, I would say that it is equal to "7" or so on the Explorer.
Does this help?
Andy Sabisch

Not sure what you are asking but if you are asking if any of the 51 segments can be accepted or rejected then the answer is yes.
The segments that correspond to [-10] through [-1] are ferrous targets and are processed as such by the electronics of the Quattro.
The segments that correspond to [0] through [+40] are non-ferrous targets and the values are based on the target's relative conductivity.
As far as you not agreeing with preset modes having pre-defined sounds, again I am not sure what the issue seems to be. While there is no COND(uctivity) / FERROUS / CONST(ant) menu option as there is on the Explorer, you are not tied down to any audio option in any mode. This is user-defined.
Andy Sabisch

How do you turn the auto off and the manual on. I didnt see anything in the book and I tried most everything??
I also have a few comments on my 2 hours with it, but I will E Mail you these.
Rick

Rick,
Press the MENU touchpad and select SENSITIVITY. The preset setting is AUTO. If you press on the [-] touchpad, the slider bar will move to the left and the display will change from saying AUTO to 20. This is now in MANUAL and you can vary the sensitivity from 20 (max) to 1 (min). This will be like the MANUAL mode on the Explorer or Sovereign where the sensitivity level will be held at the value selected.
I hope this clarifies your question . . . . .
The manual is a little light on some topics which is why I am pushing to get the book - "Mastering the Minelab Quattro MP" - out to the distributors in the next few weeks.
Andy Sabisch

While the program is not exactly the same, you can do the same thing. Let me know if you want some specifics and I can E-mail it to you . . . .
I've used it on the Carolina coast and found more gold than others I was hunting with side by side.
Andy

I thought that you could run like the Explorer at auto or manual of any number combination. I found this out after I posted the message as when you put the sensitivity (+)all the way to the right it will go to auto and as soon as you go (-) it will go to manual sensitivity. Never gave it a thought as I seen when I went all the way + it said auto in big letters on the screen and when it goes to the left the auto goes to small letters.
Got to try to give it a try tommarow if weather coperates as I was running it in 18-19 which was amost max sensitivity and why I may been haveing some problems the first time out.
Thanks again Andy and I will be waiting for your book to come out as the owners manaul is a little light compared to its big brother.
Rick

Running with the sensitivity too high (18+) on the Quattro will produce similar results as on the Explorer running at 29+. There is not a one-for-one mapping of sensitivity between the two units so remember, running at MAX sensitivity in manual on either the Quattro or Explorer (or really any detector) will more than likely result in erratic operation and falsing . . . . . . .
In clean ground I have found that 18 is usable with very little falsing. In hot ground, I need to drop it down to 16 or so for stable operation or simply switch to AUTO which does a great job based on the depth of some targets that have turned up . . . .
Hope this helps
Andy Sabisch

Hey CC, I think there will be as far as acceptance itself.. if you want conductive put it in jewelry mode and just change the disc settings, relic same thing for ferrous... At least if I am reading your question right

That's what I kind of figured...so you just work off the programs similar to adding, or eliminating notches? Regardless, my question was just to make sure you could run very low disc. in conductive.
