Minelab Safari

Flintstone

Well-known member
Hi all, i just got a Minelab Safari and don,t know if i am going to like it or not. It sure hits alot of targets. I try to go slow and it still hits them. Can,t seam to lock on one target. I have went over my yard with alot of detectors and none do this. Maybe someone can help, i been using just pre set coin mode. Any help Please. Thanks Flintstone

Since you are new to Safari,Make a custom program in conductive with everything disc out below 22 until you get use to sounds, hunt a cleaner area for a while like ball field or clean area in your yard if you have one.The signal should be clean sounding and repeatable,go very slow approach target from several directions

Hey Flinstone

I was pretty frustrated when I got my Safari. With so many noises I could not make heads or tails of what it was telling. Although I still have a lot to learn a I am finally starting to understand what some sounds are telling. You will hear this from different people but listen to the tones and try and not look at the screen. This is when I started hearing the tones better and now I am starting to dig better finds with less trash. Like prep said just start out digging the coins. Might just us 33-39, and 13-15. The latter will get you nickels but also some bottle caps and some pop-tops. Doing this will at least give you some good targets and some practice pinpointing. I also got a smaller coil which helped out with the pinpointing

sweep slow...... even a normal sweep speed is to fast, especially in a area with lot's of targets, Any Coins in your test Garden the Safari will find them, but sweep slow, Also the tone ID will boggle your mind the first few hunts, after time you will get use to it's music, on what the safari is telling you, good luck

Let me ask you this cause its what happened to me. I was getting all kinds of sounds couldn't pin point half of them or would pin point a ways off from where I heard signal does that sound right? Well I was getting pretty frustrated and didn't think I would like the machine. Well what I did was stopped chasing signals and only dug ones that were clean sounding and figured once I got better I could always come back. Well once I did that the coins started to pile up confidence went up and so did my knowledge of the machine. And I started to be able to tell the difference between the machine chirping over a bad target trying to scrim it out and on resweeps its tone is gone or different tone all together I knew target was garbage. Its been said before it will just start to click and it sounds clich

I'm also new to the Safari, and couldn't agree with KinTN more. I found that my biggest problem was sweep speed.

Flintstone..........you didn't mention what coil you have on your Safari? I'm presuming the stock 11inch? You might want to splurge and invest in a 6 inch Excellerator coil. That smaller coil will do an excellent job in separating and identifying those targets and like was mentioned already, slow down even more and using shorts sweeps, sweep the target in different directions like Prep1957 mentioned. If your starting in your yard, in a short while, you should be able to remove all the junk and then see what is left in your yard! i.e. gold coins, jewellery, gold and silver bars, silver chains and gold rings etc; LOL!!!!:clapping:

Be cautious. Alot of old rusted wire will give off silver chirps 6-8 inches away from the actual object which will give junk signals when directly over it. This led me to much frustration early on, causing me to dig and dig not finding anything thinking there was something good near an iron signal. Solid repeatable tones are the ticket and will save you from chasing any phantom signal sounds. Hope this helps. I was almost ready to give up when I first started because of this. I hunt in all metal ferrous so I can hear the junk as well as the good.
