Minelab se pro vs e trac

dabigdetector

New member
Hello,

I have used the se pro for about a year and am looking at the etrac. If Bryce is out there, JW form kellyco said you are the man to talk to. I am the type of person who normally does not put a lot of time into learning the ins and outs of the machine as I should. I live in indiana and get out maybe once a week to hunt during warm weather obviously. I had some success with the se pro, mainly in factory mode and some of my own presets. I did take it to gulf shores Alabama and had absolutely no success on there beaches.(put probably 25 hours in) My machine was actually run over by a tractor trailer on the way back, long story.
Any advice
thanks

The SE Pro is an awesome machine! It's the only machine I've used in the past 3 years.

In my last 3 park hunts, I have found 28 different pieces of silver (coins and jewelry), 3 gold rings, a couple of buffalo nickels, and about 107 wheats. All finds were from one park, at depths of 5-8". A good number of these finds were partially masked by trash targets, and underground pipes(sprinkler systems) too. The place that you go and detect is more important than figuring out which one of the top 2 turf machines in the world to choose from. Both of the machines you listed will find anything you desire, if you have the time, patience, and persistence to understand the language of the machine and get better each and every hunt!

Tuff dissension... price versus use seems to be what you are looking at. I hunt a lot so for me it would be price versus finds.... im still using the SE.

the explorers.

I did a very thorough field test of the E-Trac...but never really posted much about it...because I got hammered with questions:bouncy:

The fact of the matter is...in my honest opinion the learning curve is much less on the E-Trac than it is the explorers.

The reason I'm pointing this out to you is because you made a point to say you normally don't put a lot of time learning the ins and outs of a machine....and in my opinion...and again...I have a ton of hours on both machines...is that the E-Trac is more of a turn on and go machine.

If you are familiar with the SE pro...then the E-Trac in my opinion is just a slightly smoother machine than said SE pro.

I myself have learned to deal with some falsing and chirping on the SE...because I like the raw power I think it has....and it does have a sweet "warble" over deep silver that the E-Trac just can't match. The E-Trac does get close...but trust me...it's just not the same warble.:)

Here are 3 links of me on different outings with the E-Trac.

All this being said...which machine is my MAIN one??. The SE is...hands down:thumbup:...but I prefer the 10 x 12 SEF coil on it over the pro coil.

It's just my personal preference...and no I'm not telling you to go out and buy one since you already have the pro coil on your SE...because the pro coil is a GREAT coil.

Only you can decide whether or not you want to give the E-trac a shot.

All I can do is give you 100% honest and accurate opinions I have derived from the experience of using both machines.

I am definitely NOT sorry I bought the E-Trac...because I do use it often...but the SE is my go to machine...hands down.

I like both - the Ex SE and the ETrac machines.

It took a while to get used to the differences. After about a month with the ETrac, I have not used the SE since.

After using Explorer2/SE for years, my arm had to adjust to the ETrac handle angle, which is a little more vertical. You might try picking both up with your swing arm and see how they feel.

You can't go wrong either way. They are both great!

Had two e-trac's and sold them. Went back to the SE, Just tells me more. But if you want a turn on and go detector, go with the ET.

Good machines both. For the guy who spends less time learning his machine stick to the E trac. But dont doubt its depth ability for the advanced or beginner detectorist. If you want to get great at it you will with either machine.

good luck
