Question for anyone with being familiar to both detectors...Is this video a realistic representation of both detectors? Also I thought the SE was the flagship of minelab! Does it really miss that many signals? I am a new user to the SE and would hate to think I am missing so many targets according to this field test video. Any feedback is appreciated.

Swinging the Explorer way too fast! And many other brands will do what the XTerra 70 did. The Explorer is the depth demon over the Xterra 70. That's just my opinion...and it ain't much.

I have to agree. Way too fast.

Anyone who has used an Explorer for a while and is finding deep coins will never swing the detector that fast, and his iron mask setting of 22 on the video could be causing the unit to null. I have used my Explorer II since May of 2003 and got my X-Terra in 2007. When I hunt I start off will the Explorer then switch to the 70 but always finish off with Explorer. I have compared my iffy and deep coins with both and the Explorer will always see any target the X-Terra see's but the X-Terra does not always see everything the Explorer detects. In construction sites where the gound has been broken up the X-Terra wins also tiny gold items.

Well...come on down Art! We ain't had any rain so the ground is bone dry. Maybe those little boogers (gophers) have pushed up something for us. Call me when you have time. Charles still has my numbers if you don't.

Explorer does not like air between the coil and ground, air tests like that are worthless. My 70 is a great detector and I use it in the woods or fields where I want to move at a faster pace. The Explorer is the winner for surgical picking of old stuff, especially amongst trash or iron.

I have an Explorer XS and the 70. The 70 is a good detector but I am not going to sell my Explorer.
My advice is keep your Explorer and add on the 70 to see how you will like it, nothing wrong with having 2 or more detectors.

The explorer is the Boss. But the 70 is close behind. I have hunted side by side wiyh my using the 70 and my buddy using the Explorer. Both of us run all metal and we both have dug coppers to 10 and 12 inches in loamy soil. Some may remember my talking about the field of dreams. There we dug 57 large coppers, a Farthing, and a few Half Reales. in 2 1/2 days. It was an old stag road.
The X-Terra 70 with the 10" DD 7.5 kHz coil is one awesome machine when you want to put in a full day of swinging in the field. One draw back, and that can be over come. Is the real deep targets will come in as a blip in the audio and the digits will jump around. If you take the time to watch the digits and if the generalize themselves in the upper #s just pull a plug and the target ID will then correct itself and the tone will clear up.
This is just my opinion.

and Im curious as to where everyone is experiencing this. I mostly hunt salt water beaches and the only time I loose a signal is on the deepest targets and Ive dug past my target and its fallen deeper than I believe the explorer can pull a signal. but on a 12" target or so sitting in the bottom of a dug hole the explorer hits it cleanly, just like a Sov will. Sometimes the signal improves when soil is removed.

Im just wondering why this doesnt apply to beach hunting. and both dry and wet sand too, not like it only happens in one or the other.

Thanks much,
Neil

Hey Buds!
Thanks for all the responses ....I am certain I will have fun with this SE detector! I have heard and read so many stories to make me a firm believer of this detector...hell, half the battle is learning to use the darn thing..the other half is research and luck combined...Thanks all!!
Keep the coil low and slow:detecting:!!
