Well I got it today. Wouldn't you know temp. 96 and ground hard as a rock. May be a good thing cause I have no idea how to use it. Actually
read the manual. Now that was a big help..HAHAHA, It seems very complicated and sure makes a lot of noise in the house. How long does it take to figure this very different detector out??.

It is different but when you get used to the sounds you will love it. I hated mine at first but now love it.

I would hunt in the factory preset for a while and dig and take a piece of paper with you and write down where every target comes in at and go from there.It wont take long before you will remember what to dig or not.Go slow and dont give up,the explorer is the best.Go to a school and learn their is a lot of coins and dig every good target.

Hey Elton,

Glad you got the SE. I think you will not only get used to those sounds, but love them once you know that some of them mean old siver and gold. You will fall off to sleep at night hearing them in your mind.

Don't worry about it being complicated and using it in the house is not the best place. Take it outside and go through the menu items one at a time. Soon you will find that there is not that much to it afterall.

Lay some coins of different value on the ground along with some junk items (foil, pull-tab, etc) and sweep the coil over them. Learn to hear the difference in how they sound and how they pinpoint.

Soon you will be on your way and finding things just like everyone else.

I agree - don't try and be clever by programming something straight away - you need to use factory preset for at least your first 10 times out - and go very slow - very very slow. I also thought i had made a mistake buying the SE but after the first few trips out i started to get the hang of it. I recently found my first 3 hammered coins - something i had failed to do in 20+ years of detecting here in the UK

Thanks guys.I am not going to try an make like I thought it was great.
In fact when I first turned it on and ran a few items under the coil, "I thought my goodness what have I done". But, after reading your posts, the manual, and other bits, on the net I find that it was normal(noise). So, I will give it a shot, learn it if possible, and, hopefully
like it.I think it just overwhelmed me being my first experience with an SE...Thanks for all your time. A special thanks to all who PM'd me with how to start out.
