I had to send in my musketeer for a repair, seems the previous owner new somthing was going badd and dumped it so i got stuck whith it i found the problem , a bad headphone jack but i have no back up detector and this is one of the best times of the year to get out and i only have one month left befor the ground freezes up seems minlabe like many other companys are suffering in this econemy and are short staffed i was told three weeks befor it even gets looked at i wich i had a back up detector but the little money i have would consume the money i need for repairs i really like the musketeer thats why i am trying to get it fixed but it sure is hurting me so before you get a minelabe make sure you have a good back up detector Gunnar MN

My Advantage went bad and even though the coil was only a couple of months old I suspected the problem was most likely the coil. I took the connector apart and noticed there were four wires but only three were soldered the fourth didn't look like it broke but was a clean cut. Rather than send it in for who knows how long I called Minelab and asked to talk to a technician to see if there are supposed to be four wires soldered. If so i was just going to junk the coil and buy another one. I was told the technicians were busy and that she would have someone call me back. No call back. A week later I called again and was told the same thing. Another week passed and I called again and explained that it was a simple question that would take less than a minute and she told me she would send my question straight to the head man and he would call me back as he always returns calls. That was two weeks ago. I've come to the conclusion that after this and also hearing numerous complaints about Minelabs service I have to treat my Minelab detectors like disposable lighters. If it goes bad just replace it. I think Minelabs are great detectors but the service sucks.

If it had been me with the headphone jack problem i would have used it with the inbuilt speaker for the remaining month then sent it in when the freeze started, either that or have a local techy look at it, probably just something simple like gunge in there or maybe a dry solder joint

Minelab had always been good to me in the past. Great service, communication, and turn around time.
Even would through in some extras for free if I asked.
But this has gone away now. I have 2 E-lites, one I sent in and it was terminal, so we bought a "refurbished unit"
had a 90 day warranty, lasted 90 days. Sent it back, said it was fixed, but still the same thing. 2 weeks later I sent it back again.
(still warranty though). Now 2 & 1/2 months later, Still no machine. I talked to the tech, told him no problem I had another one.
Called every 2 weeks for up date. Still haven't worked on it yet, and said they can't find anything wrong with it.??
Now I call, and they won't let me talk to the tech. Get the He will call you back crap. Then the girls calls, and said we show you machine was delivered to me and that I had signed for it. I said yes, that was the first time, I talked to the Tech 2 weeks ago, and he still had it, and that I need to talk to the tech about my other machine. Now I have 2 machines that don't work, one in Las Vegas, and one at home.
Guess I'm done ranting now, This thread made me mad when I saw the title, wanted to add my 2 zincs worth.
I hope Minelab reads this stuff.

I have been concerned ever since I heard that they were closing in Ireland and Bruce Candy is no longer involved with the detectors. Who is going to come up with the ideas? Are they finished as an innovative company? Apparently they are no longer a customer service oriented company and this will hurt them. If they get a reputation for bad CS... people will stop spending big bucks on their machines.

They need to address this right now.

I just sent xcal 800 back, they recived it the 27th and she said they are running about 15 days till they get to service it, I talked to the tech and the lady there, both nice and helped all they could. Dont give up on them yet, Can you imagine how many minelabs there are needing repair at the peak season,,,just my thoughts

Geez and I gotta send my Excalibur 2 in for service !!
Hummm and I live in fla where our season really doesn't end !
Thoughts on this one !!

Is it Broke John? if its not don't try fixing it, i think i would wait until i had a backup, with proper maintenance it shouldn't need a service

Maybe they will also move their repair dept to a third world country so we can get some service.
Please excuse me, that wasn't funny

If you remember it wasn't too long ago, ML declared some of their older units unrepairable due to lack of parts. I would be will to bet that downsizing was the real issue. I would like to see them sell off their lower priced lines to another smaller company that is more consumer minded, and keep the higher end gold units and military products. Of coarse I'm just a consumer not a stockholder.

My two zincs worth is get a back up machine...soon. Then when the original dies you don't care how long it takes to get the repaired unit returned. That's the only insurance worth anything. Besides, maybe you could interest a friend in using your spare and get anothe convert to the great hobby. Jim

Got my machine back today, going back for the "forth" time now. Talked to the manager today, told them I have been patient, now I'm getting irritated!!! I had paid the shipping three times, and I wasn't paying for a forth time. They said I would send a call tag, and a different tech this time, get it fixed and sent it right back. Third time wasn't the charm, maybe 4 will do it?? If they can't fix a Sov. E-lite,, what are they doing with the new stuff that goes bad??? I got a back-up machine, matter of fact 2 of them. But this is getting ridiculous.
Slow is one thing, but not fixing it and sending it back is another!!

This NEW OWNERSHIP is A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-LY INSANE!! I have been dealing with MINELAB since 2001, and the original company had SOME COMPLAINTS,
but I PERSONALLY FELT they were FARE MINDED, especially with DICK SHULTZ at the HELM!! He was MAN, and the BEST ASSET that MINELAB had!!
You COULD ALWAYS get to talk to him, UNLESS he was REAL BUSY or IN A MEETING, he WOULD ALWAYS RETURN YOUR CALL within a DAY OR TWO, and he KNEW HOW to TREAT HIS CUSTOMERS!!
I'm in agreement with Crazyman, I WISH WHITES ELECTRONICS or TESORO ELECTRONICS would purchase the HOBBY END of MINELAB'S Business, because I know FIRST TEXAS can't afford it!! I personally HOPE another company comes up with a GREAT WATER detector, that would MATCH or EXCEL
in its capabilities like the EXCALIBUR!! Then we could get AWAY FROM alot of these MINELAB NIGHTMARES!! HH, Les.
