Minelab stock coil warranty question...

Is the warranty on the stock coil 1 year?

When I was on the forum hunt, I was having intermittent problems with it on the last day. All of a sudden it would go whacky on me. I thought perhaps I was running it too hot so I went with auto sensitivity which seemed to help. Well, I tried it 2 weeks ago and it was doing the same thing, only it never went away. When I went to Auto Sens, it quieted down but it wouldn't pick up my silver OR gold ring, even with my hand on the coil. I tried cleaning the connector thinking maybe some dirt got in there but it's done for. Bummer. I love using that one at the beach. I had the first coil replaced in Sept of '05, 5 months after I got my machine. So unless by some miracle it's a 2 year warranty, I'm out of luck... Oh well... :( :surrender:

I took mine off the other day and it was loaded with dirt and dust. People were telling me they could set their sensitivity to 22 in Semi-auto. I had a hard time getting it to settle down at 17. Even 16 seemed too high.

Once I got the coil cover off and leaned up the underside of the coil and washed the coil cover well and dried both the detector settled down. Could even go 22 and not be unstable. Using 22 with the probe didn't work well at all though.

Once I got the coil cover back on I used electrical tape and sealed it all the way around the outside edges and the edges inside as well.

I once had a Garrett that I used a silcone caulking material on to keep water, dust and dirt from getting into the coil cover. (Certainly easier to put the silicone on than electrical tape. If ya haven't checked the coil cover yet I'd do that first.

Not having a warranty on my Minelab I can't help with how long the warranty is good for Joe. I hope it is simply dirt and dust under the coil and inside the coil cover.

call Al at 269-685-1776 He can tell ya!

Don't use one. I coated the bottom of mine with a thick coat of marine epoxy and followed it up with another coat of clear. Works great!

so then disregard my thought

Have you ever had the probe sound crazy when in pinpoint mode?

Acts like the sensitivity is way too high. Didn't figure I would have to lower the sensitivity for the probe. Thought just flipping the switch was all that was needed to go from coil to probe.

Maybe its me????
