Minelab Warranty

I was wondering if opening my Sovereign Gt would void the minelab warranty. Still got about a year and a half on the warranty and would not want to do something that would void the warranty.

I suspect that my GT has a problem in the headphone jack as I have good audio until I plug in a set of headphones and then nothing. Have tried two sets of headphones and same problem. Hate to send it back and be without it for weeks for something simple.

Don't think it is the jack yet as it still can be the headphones, the reason I say that is you may not be using a Stereo/Mono set of headphone and if you are it can be a broken wire in the cable of the headphones. Seen this many times with headphones as some will even work on one detector and not the other, so make sure you are using a correct headphones that you know will work on stereo/ Mono as if it is not the right one it will not work or if one of the wires in the cable is broke it will work on one and not the other, so make sure you have a set you know is good and switch the switch to both positions.
If you know for sure it is not the headphones it will have to be sent to Minelab for repair if still under warranty or it will void it.

Rick I am using Killer B II headphones that have worked flawlessly for about a year and a half. Was In Fl when I I got the problem. Thought that I had left the GT on and run down the battery. But when I put in the Alkaline pack and still had the problem I tried a set of Koss UR-30 and still had the same problem . I thought that it might be the headphones but when the second pair gave the same problem then I suspected the GT having a problem. If AT&T ever gets my U-Verse straightened out I am going to go to a friends and test my headphones on his machine.

Ive cleaned out the jacks by lightly rubbing the inside with a Qtip dipped in isopropyl alcohol. You might give that a try.

Sounds like you have them on MONO. Check your switch if you have one for MONO or sterio. The pro golds have a mono switch im always hitting it accidently. Go to the nearest detector shop or a friend heck even another person detecting on the beach and try another pair in your machine.

Too be on the safe side as I have seen this before a few times is like Dew said the switch is one thing and like I was saying it could be a broken wire in the headphones cable. If your Friend has a Minelab you can check your headphones on his, but if he has some of the other brands it could be a mono detector and they will work just fine, but not on your Sovereign.Does the speaker work when the phones are not plugged in?? and shuts off when the headphones are plugged in as the speaker should work with out the headphones plugged in.
The biggest problem with headphones is one wire will get broke in the cable and cause this problem and many of the headphones made for detecting have a warranty that will fix them for you. Detector pro make a set called NDT (No Down Time) that has a replaceable cable that just plugs into the headphones so you can carry a extra cable with your detecting stuff and change it when you need to and not ruin your day of detecting. The Uni Probe Detector Pro also make has this same set up and had to change mine only one time in my 10 years of owning them.

I hope it will be a simple problem such as this and like I say it is the most common one I have seen with headphones not working.

Good Luck
Rick

Dew that was the first thing that I checked was to make sure that the headphones were not on Mono. Unfortunately there are no Detector Shops in my area. Couple of kitchen table dealers who do not stock anything. Closest Shop is 100 miles and he is very small and specializes in Garrett and Tesoro.

I will figure it out in a few days. Tried a pair of phones off a Bounty hunter and had a very weak threshold at full volume and my headphones gave me nothing when plugged into the Bounty Hunter.

Got a backup GT in route so I should be able to know for sure if its headphones or Detector when it arrives.

If you need to try a different set I can send you one of my sets to try, or even the new set that come with my GT as I wont be using them myself. this will be one way to see for sure as I still feel you have a broken wire in the cable on your good set being you tried the switch on mono and stereo on it as I said it is a common problems and many of the good headphone covers this under warranty or a small charge to replace the cable.

Just let me know if you want to try one of my sets.

Rick I have a backup GT in route to me. Hope to get it Monday. When I get it I should be able to determine for certain exactly where the problem is. Sure hope it is the headphones. Don't like the idea of having to ship my detector to Minelab.

Your Kind Offer Is Greatly Appreciated.
