I have been sort of a Tesoro guy but have wanted to try the Xterra 705 after reading all the reviews and posts that our friend Long Hair has made. I just could never afford one until now, the wife and I got a pretty good tax return and she said I could splurge. An Xterra 70 with three coils came up for sale for $300.00 shipped, I was lucky enough to be the first to jump on it. I think that it is a great deal, the guy called me last night and told me that it was sent to the factory last year and they went all through it and put a new faceplate on it, etc. It comes with the stock 8 inch coil 7.5 Feq, 8 inch 3 Feq, and also 18.75 elliptical coil, rain cover for the control box and extra lower shift and extra nuts/ bolts. I don't know much about Minelab XTerra's but was told the the earlier serial number are better/hotter. The serial number of the one I am getting is #00244- which is an earlier one I believe.

Sounds like a really nice deal!
Now knowing where you are, and knowing generally the types of sites you'll be hunting, if I were you I'd look to swap that 5x10" HF DD coil for a 10.5" MF DD.

10.5 DD MF. This coil should come stock on the 705.

Congratulations. I saw that and would have bought it but you beat me to it. I think you will like it. After a few weeks. I hated mine for about two weeks. Now I don't know what I woul do with out it.

I think you'll really be happy with it. You definitely got a good deal.
We were an all Tesoro family up until about 5 years ago when we all switched over to the 705. Three Tesoros were sold and there are a couple still sitting around for when someone needs to loan someone something but I don't think anyone misses their old machine. Not insinuating that Tesoros are a bad detector but we're all very happy with the Minelab products.

The xterra is so much different than a Tesoro. I used Tesoros exclusively for 29 years, and have really enjoyed the switch to the X705.
We've had folks show up here after buying an Xterra and sell not long after. Apparently they aren't for everyone. Hope you learn and like yours. Welcome.
