Although when going on this late may/ early June trip the majority of my time is devoted to walleye fishing, I do, though, always find some time to get some swinging in. Historically, I have spent the bulk of my detecting efforts on the areas 100 plus years old fairgrounds and over the years it has yielded me many old silver coins and other varieties as well as some jewelry. This year, however, I found the old grounds hadn't been mowed for some time and had a good 6" or so growth of prairie grass. I did hit one of the local old parks with my F 75 LTD and recovered several old coins, 3 silvers, 2 IH cents, a buffalo nickel and some wheats. (See Fisher F forum if interested) Since I had a standing invitation to hunt the resort grounds when ever I wanted, the next day I opted to hunt with my Omega and began hunting a small field behind the cabins. It became evident quickly that this field 40, 50 and 60 years ago had been the shooting spot for target practice, shooting into the hillside some 50-100 yards away. High power rifle brass was pretty abundant as well as all caliber sizes of pistol shells and some lead. I was able to run the Omega with 99 sen and 0 disc and it was stable and quiet. The one time I did get a shot of emi I shifted through the other two frequencies and in frequency 2 it became quiet and stable.My first silver reading target turned out to be a ladies sterling ring with 6 small turquoise stones. Over the next two outings that comprised about four hours of total hunting time, the Omega sniffed out 7 silver coins, 5 wheats, some clad and other curios. Besides 99 sen, 0 disc, I was using the 10" coil in d3 tones and a gb of 74-77. Oh, and I had some fish come along as well. HH jim tn

Minnesota fishing and detecting trip.

I've been out of town since my birthday last month, and on my second day out I ate some bad food. I think I finally kicked the crud yesterday morning, but it sure made for a miserable trip. 
I didn't have the success you had, to be sure, as I hardly got out detecting.
The Omega treated you well with 7 silver coins. Naturally, location i always an important key ingredient, but the Omega did it's job as well. I'm hoping for similar success as I hope to head out tomorrow morning for a 3-day Central Oregon detecting jaunt with a group of local hobbyists/detectorists. My silver count is a bit low so far this year.
I enjoy reading posts like yours where you remember to include the settings used. On my 3-state jaunt, even though I didn't get to hunt much due to illness, I did hunt some and never had a Ground Balance setting less than '78'. Many of the sites called for a setting of '83' to '85.6', but that was with the G2 and 5" DD coil to handle the trash.

Monte, hope this finds you continuing to get over your illness. Bad food makes for a horrible case of "sick." That Minnesota dirt seems to run a good 10 + gb numbers higher then my Tn dirt. It gets real nasty, though, over on the eastern side of the state. Thanks all for the comments. I did have a great time and not real pleased with the 100 degree temps I came back to. HH jim tn
