Missing very shallow targets:

Mick: You may have a point about not doing enough noise cancelling as usually at a site once or twice would be all I'd do it. Although almost always the number would remain the same. Have found myself doing more noise cancelling with the Safari as there is a separate noise cancelling button on it, unlike needing to access the menu with the XT's (which can also be done on the Safari). A more plausible reason for missing shallow targets could be my swing speed, although it pretty much varies in direct proportion to the amt. of targets in the ground. There is one other possible reason too. The mineralization of my ground at times varies tremendously from step to step (low 20's to 40's). I often use tracking to overcome that problem, but if there is a lot of trash in the ground, it can throw tracking numbers way off. Especially when trying to pickup on a good target which is being masked by trash. What I do when using tracking is to keep checking my ground balance numbers to make sure their not out out of whack with what they should be. As far as coils go, use the 6" DD HF coil for high trash areas and the 10.5" DD MF coil when having a lot of ground to cover, now believe the 10.5" HF coil would have worked better in my ground. Thanks for everyone's input and take care.
