Mizar Gold Testers?

cwilk

New member
I have been thinking about what I might buy myself with my Christmas bonus from work this year. One item I am strongly considering is a Mizar gold tester. If anybody here has experience with them I would love to hear opinions about how easy they are to use and how accurate. I do not require really precise purity results. I would like to be able to determine: 1. Yes, it is gold. And 2. A range of purity. ie 10k-14k.

They are expensive and a pain in the butt to use. I have one and I am sorry I bought it. You have to make sure the testing solution is absolutely fresh and not contaminated with air.......it is not exactly cheap either. Best to go with the manual method with the acid and a stone......a lot cheaper and more accurate. I think only the really expensive ones work well, the $100-$200 range......forget about it!

I bought the ET18 about a year ago, and it works great. I wish I had gotten the ET18-9 for more versatility. It's compact enough to take on trips You're supposed to buy new testing liquids periodically.

I have a Mizar 24 and it is great. Not that hard to figure out and dead nut right on with the purity tests. Cost is about $170.

I emailed the company and asked what the shelf life of properly handled chemicals is. What is your experience? How often do you replace your solutions.

Do you know what the chemicals are?
