I recently read this and thought it might be of interest to you all. If this is correct i think its great... nothing worse than buying a used detector with no warranty thats only a couple of months old. Been awhile since i bought mine does the SE now come with a 3 year warranty?

Minelab Warranty: Transferable from July 1st, 2011

Minelab, an ISO9001 quality accredited company, currently provides a comprehensive three-year warranty for the majority of our products*. In an ongoing effort to improve our services to our valued customers, this warranty will now be transferable for new products purchased from July 1st, 2011 going forward. This means that any remaining warranty period from a product can be transferred to a legitimate subsequent owner within the original country of purchase. For complete details on our warranty, please refer to our full Limited Product Warranty Conditions www.minelab.com/warranty-registration/limited-product-warranty-conditions.
If you have purchased or have a Customer that has purchased a second-hand Minelab detector they are encouraged to register the detector

That is good to know Dew...I am only four months into my warranty. The dealer I purchased mine from sent in all of the warranty paperwork for me. I should probably find the paperwork I have and read through it again.

This is the best Minelab news I have heard in a long time. They have some of the best detectors out there and now there backing them up for the warranty period no matter who owns them. Great news!

Well nothing has changed for us that purchased our Minelabs before July 1st 2011, the transferrable warranty is only on machines bought on that date or later. Now 6 months or a year from now if you want to buy a used Minelab don't assume that you will get the balance of the warranty, you will have to send your information in and if the original owner fulfilled the registration properly and had purchased the machine on or after July 1st 2011 then you will get the balance of the warranty.

I don't know why they did not extend the transferrable warranty for machines purchased before that date (well I really do know why!) because I think it is going to cause a lot of headaches for them.

Please don't get me wrong, they did not have to do this, when we bought our machines we knew, or should have, what the warranty entails. I am not complaining.

I am not a dealer but I have many years of experience in a retail business, bicycles, selling a product that had a warranty involved. The benefits to the dealers and the problem to the dealers that this move entails.

1. The product has more percieved value since the warranty stays with the machine not the owner, it will make selling a used machine easier and probably cause a bump in the price; ergo the dealer has an another tool to help in marketing his machine.

2. When someone has a machine they wish to trade in that carries this extended warranty the dealer can offer a bit more than before (because he can get more for it) to encourage trade ups.

3. Problem for dealer if he has a "like new" machine that for example was purchased on May of 2011 and one similar that had been purchased on July 31st of 2011 they will have a significant difference in price because one has a warranty and the other dosen't. This will make it difficult for them when marketing them.

4. Glitches in the warranty registration process, and we all know this happens, will cause people to come back to the dealer for resolution.

If you buy a used machine purporting to have the extended warranty from a private individual you will have an extended process to confirm this. If deceived intentionally or unintentionally you have little recourse to solve this without extended or costly litigation.

Simplest resoulution is if they would extend this to all machines that have at least one year on their warranty.

Sounds like I'm whining but I'm not, I have had nothing but the greatest experience with Minelab and the dealers I have dealt with I was just contemplating the unintended consequence that may occur.
