Rick at Detect USA makers of the Ratphones just modified mine with a special sound limiter, now when the volume controls are turned up on the headphones 1-3" surface coins-items won't blow my ears out.
I don't see any difference in sound at deeper coin depths.
They work great with my Tesoro SS umax, Minelab Musketeer and on some of my other detectors without volume controls.
