I managed to get out for an hour and 15 minutes. It was cold. The ground was frozen any place that doesn't get a full day of sunlight. I kept thinking this could be the last hunt of 2008. My first two targets were wheats. 1928 and 1930S. I needed both for my brag book so that was a bonus. Also found a batting cage token and an SBA dollar. That dollar coin made my dollar coin total the same as my half total for 2008. Eighteen. I was hoping for 20 halves to make a roll but I only found about 2 halves after June.

Had a run in with some kids who were climbing over a fence into the kiddie pool to screw around. I went over and asked them to stop. They did. Then this kid of about 14 took off his jacket and proceeded to urinate down a spiral slide at the playground. I set my equipment down and strongly suggested that this behavior was unacceptable and that he had better clean it up. I'm saving you all the cussing that went on. He told me, not so nicely, that he wasn't going to clean it up so I told him that I would clean up after him this one time. I picked up his jacket and dropped it in the puddle of urine that had accumulated at the bottom of the slide. He was extremely unhappy with me but they left quickly and the kid did not pick up his jacket. It was a school team hoodie and has his last name on the back. I called the cops to report the event and the kids name just in case. The officer suggested that I should have known better than to use the kids jacket and that I should have let them handle it. I asked if the officer would rather some 4 or 5 year old slide through the piss? Is it even worth trying to fix this kind of behavior? (The kids behavior not mine!)

So my potential last hunt was memorable. Forecast high for the next week is around 31F. Made it 2 days later than last year anyway.

Yes, If more people did, there would be less of that sort. Personally, I thank you.

As for the cops, "when moments count... they're only minutes away!"

Heck, I thought that using the kids jacket to soak up the urine was acceptable. The jacket is still wearable (after a wash0 and the slide got cleaned. it was definitely a win-win situation for all parties involved.

congratulations on getting those old Wheat's. I hope I get some of your luck. I just finished 7 days in a row at work and am looking forward to a day in the woods. The ground is also frozen in the shaier spots in Edmonton. What snow we had is now all gone and they are predicting a high of 6c / 43F on Tuesday. Woo-hoo!!!!

I thought the jacket trick was right on. If it had of been me I probably would have rubbed the kids nose in it. You sure run into some jerky cops back there.

Bill

If the kid wasn't so big, I would have dragged his ass to the top of the ladder and made him slide down the slide.

Actually, I didn't think the cop was bad or wrong. His opinion was I shouldn't take the law into my own hands or in this case risk an altercation with a juvenile where I would have surely been held to blame. I phoned the police when I got home just in case the kid called first to say some guy at the park swiped his jacket or whatever. If I had my cell phone on me I would have called the police at the scene as he suggested and they would have showed up 45 minutes later after the kids were long gone. The police station is about 1/4 mile from the park.

Come to think of it, you're right. Most of our village and town cops are boobs.

Chris

a nice pile of loot Chris to bad about the kids & putting his jacket in the puddle of pee was funny :clapping:

Nowadays, that is ever more true. Not all cops are of boobs, course - there are many good one's who enter into the profession to do good.

But it is a self-fulfilling occupation. They tell us we can't live without them; we must go to them at all times. And we fall for it.
'Same holds true for Realtors and academics.

I found the exact same batting cage token in the upper left corner first coin. Found mine in a park in Des Moines Iowa

Speaking from the judicial side of things, you probably could have had a hastle if the kid pursued it. But I think that you did the right thing and maybe the kid will think twice before being such a jerk. :veryangry:

I'd reckon most judges, once the truth were told, would have sided with you.

I was careful not to put my hands on the kid but I thought about forcing him to sit down in the mess he had made. Then I could have been in big trouble. My testimony as it happened would be that I picked up a nearby rag I saw hanging on the play equipment and cleaned up the park to teach these nice youngsters a lesson in citizenship. What would your sentence be for the kid for vandalizing the play equipment and for public urination? There is a public rest room about 50 feet from where it happened.

This country is largely a lost cause. We tolerate too much indecency and allow too many marginal citizens to adversely affect the lives of the good and the decent. If you ever wondered what the final few Roman Emperor's thought as their empire crumbled around them just flip through a few channels on your television or visit your local middle or high school. The Barbarian Hoarde is at the outskirts of Rome again and there is not much we can do to force them back.

Now everybody is going to say I'm ranting again and I have been trying to be so good too.

Chris

This is not directed at you Bernie.

sounds like the cops we have here, lazy and do not want to do anything, if you had called them to take care of it, NOTHING would have happened. I applaud you for what you did, the little brat needs taken behind the woodshed

And a good rant it was, too. Decay can start from within as easily as without.
