Hey there everyone!!! Sorry I haven't posted in a while, the girlfriend is keeping me busy lol... Went out to a park that i've been hammering the past several weeks... I've managed to find (1) oldie every trip out... whether its a buffalo nickel or an injun...
I was really surprised... I had a real choppy foil/nickel signal on the XLT, it rang in at 2 1/2 inches... well I dug a huge hole and couldn't find the target, my pinpointer needs to be replaced... i never cared for the whites pinpointer... anyways i eventually found it and broke the 1900's barrier tonight, found my 2nd V-Nickel of the year/ever... 1898 is the date... about 5 feet away I get a high silver tone... it read from 83 - 85 on my XLT for the VDI, usually this signify's a silver dime or a really worn clad quarter... out popped my first large cent of the year... coin is a draped bust large cent (1796-1807) i can't get a date off of it... judging by the picture i dont think either of the coins look that great... you can't see the detail of the large cent unless you hold it under good lighting, wet the coin and hold it at a certain angle... there are markings on the back, but i'm unsure how i should clean this coin... date has flaked off... the picture does not do the coins justice, the large cent actually has details on the front, but like i said above, you need to have the proper lighting conditions and hold the coin at a certain angle to see... any ideas how i should clean up this baby??? At first I could've sworn i saw the date 1804 on the large cent, but its too tough to tell... and too good to be true... 2003 blue book (wholesale prices) lists an 1804 large cent in AG condition for $125. Let's keep our fingers crossed, HH ya'll!!! <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

I occasionally pull up silver coins that sound and VDI like crap with my XLT, but the coins seem to have a slightly more solid tone. HH, Mike

I'd suggest electrolysis for that large cent, even if it's an 1804, with electrolysis it will still go for AG - Poor and in the rare cases Fair. At least electrolysis will give it a bit of eye appeal which is important.
Great finds!
