RogerD put out a mayday request, and so you guys can chew on this for a while!

Montana News Bulletin:

(For those of you who are not aware, Montana and North Dakota
got hit with their first blizzard of the season a couple of weeks ago)

This text is from a county emergency manager out in the western part of North
Dakota state after the storm.

Amusing...

WEATHER BULLETIN

Up here in the Northern Plains we just recovered from a Historic event ---
may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a
historic blizzard of up to 24" inches of snow and winds to 50 MPH that
broke trees in half, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks,
closed all roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of
thousands.

George Bush did not come....
FEMA staged nothing....
No one howled for the government...
No one even uttered an expletive on TV...
Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards.....
No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House....
No news anchors moved in.

We just melted snow for water, sent out caravans to pluck people out of
snow engulfed cars, fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or
Aladdin lamps and put on an extra layer of clothes.

Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has never fallen this
early...we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves.

Everybody is fine!.

You are absoutly right about what can happen up here, Here is a pic of a storm that blew thru one day and dumped about 4 foot of wet snow that raised havoc and snapped thousands of trees like toothpicks. We just waited and then re-mounted the snow plows, sharpened the chain saws, chained up the 4-wheelers and went to cut and dig stranded people out, all on our own.
This is a picture that was taken up to the mine before it really got deep, all within a 2 hour drive from home. Needless to say that after cutting and clearing roads there was plenty of fire wood to go around.
And all this happened on the 3rd of JUNE 2001

I thought my computer was broke! Nobody was posting on Doc's Forum.
If I posted a story, it would have to be a complete fictional one. Something tells me that you would catch on if I said we had a cat5 snowstorm here in Lake Havasu. We have had snow 2 times in my 35 years here. We made an 8" snowman. Best we could do.

I'm hoping some of that snow gets down here in the next two weeks cause I am headed elk hunting pretty quick, up by Flagstaff. Snow makes draging out elk a lot easier. And the older I get the easier I like things! I just don't want to live in that stuff.

Allen, Do you carry a camera at all times? You always have some great pictures. You do an excellent job of documenting everything that you do. I always take my camera with me , but nothing exciting ever happens to me I guess.

I think I will have to start living on the edge a little more.

Anyway it's good to see someone else is hanging around Doc's Place!

Hi Largo,
Nothing better than about 350LBs of Elk in the freezer. I do all my own butchering, have for the last 35 years. I just never spent the money to get the equipment to make summer sausage or any thing like that. There used to be a regular butcher shop here and I would have him do that for me. But butcher shops are almost a thing of the past. Man I miss his shop cause you could get anything cut, any way you wanted.
I still make patty sausage and hamburger. I also try to do 30 or 40 lbs of smoked jerkey. That stuff is excellent. I make mine that goood HOT peppered style. I also smoke a lot of fish which is great! I use the crap out of my vacuum sealer for game and fish, and we buy a lot of bulk beef and pork and I cut it myself.
Anyway glad to hear from you. Do you have plans to get to Arizona this winter? My plans are to live the winter out in the bush! But I am going to make another 2-3 weeks trip back up to Rye Patch in March or April, depending on the weather.

Hi Roger,

You indeed sound like a man of many talents!
I would like to get down to Az, I have a good comfortable rv and p.u. but have some home issues and concerns that keep me from getting too far away.
I was a member of the Havasu Gold Seekers for several years, but never set foot on their properties.
Maybe you and Dan and I can get together sometime and tell each other some lies!!
That jerky sounds like powerful stuff!

Hi Largo,
I understand the home issues and know well the importance.
I need to call Dan and see what he's up too since his Alaska trip. We usually get a number of trips together during the winter. Dan and his dad are really great to be around. I enjoy their company and friendship.

It would be great if you were able to get down this way and do some hunting, but I understand we can't always do what we want, when we want.
