I posted last week showing some bullets and buttons that I found in the fence row bordering a very hunted out encampment. Yesterday I took a machette and cleared out a bunch of brush, and hunted pretty much all day using a 6x8 sef coil. Wasn't there but a few minutes (after swinging the machette for a while!) when I got just a bit of conductive chatter in between ferrous signals (hunting in wide open quickmask, TTF and manual sensitivity at 24 to 30 most of the time). Dug another nice 58 caliber drop from about 10 inches. This time I remembered to not only take my camera.....but to get it out and take some pictures! LOL I proceeded to dig 3 more 58 caliber drops, 3 more cuff button backs (alas, I believe one of them had the front on it until I must have hit the edge with the shovel and it probably disintegrated, couldn't ever locate it), a 63 caliber 2 ringer (my first), one large rivet, 2 round pistol balls, part of a toe tap, and a very chewed bullet that has obvious human teeth marks in it. Definitely what some around here refer to as a pain bullet. The pin fire cartridge in my picture of the finds came from a few days back, was only a few inches deep. So far from this fence row, I've found 11 58 caliber drops (5 are what I understand to be a rare variant), 5 44 colt bullets (3 drops and 2 that were either fired or de-molded while the lead was still warm), 4 decent buttons and 4 cuff button backs, a few rivets, the two pistol round balls, the 63 caliber, and some other odds and ends. Needless to say I will be going back soon. Am anxious to try a BIG coil out in the open field to see if there are any DEEP goodies that have been missed. I know that there are at least a dozen veteran detectorists that have, and do occasionally still, hunt this encampment.
