I found a really neat 1920's brooch next to an old house site today. I thought it looked so ugly, and assumed it was brass, I almost tossed it. I cleaned it up at home, and am very glad I kept it. It is heavier than the men's gold ring I found yesterday. It has 4 cool blue stones of some sort set in it that look sort of like opals but surely are not.

Found these this weekend. The ladies ring is gold plated silver. The brooch (or pin) and the men's wedding band are gold.
I have been using the "thumbing down" the disc dial, and have finally learned to pass on some of the huge amounts of iffy sounding signals, but still dig anything that repeats, is fairly smooth, and comes in without breaking up when thumbing down the disc.

WOW probably pearls on the broach , I know it the compadre really likes gold , thats no understatement. all sizes, put a GB and bost on that thing and it would be an even better machine, I hope the Caz is going to be an enhanced 12khz compadre typ machine

Getting a Compadre. Most hunting around here is playgrounds and parks. Your opinion on what coil - 5.75 or 8" - would give the best results. Thanks.
I think that the 5.75" best plays with the strengths of the magic Compadre circuitry. Razor differentiation and discrimination, and the ability to find very tiny gold etc. The extra depth of the 8" and the ability to cover more territory sounds attractive, but one of the strengths of the Compadre is its ability to sort through a small trash filled area, evaluating each tiny signal in a carpet of trash. You can't rush that, so a larger coil is not going to help you, will hurt you.
In those trashy areas I dig even the soft signals if they are round and smooth and repeating. It is probably just a speck of foil in the grass roots, but it might be a barber dime 6" deep that sounds about the same.
I am no expert, read through the posts that some of these other guys have written about using the Compadre, that is what helped me. And it takes several outings to properly calibrate your ear to the machine, to work fast and not go crazy in a trashy small area.
