More depth out of my 705?

planerie

New member
Hello guys I just upgrade from a 305 to a 705 and was wondering how you guys run it. I would like to get as much depth out of it as I can and was thinking if I am at a non trashy location that running it in prospecting mode might give me the depth I need. Any thoughts on this would be awesome. I mainly coin and relic hunt on old homesteads and open fields.

Depth can be limited by a number of things.
Assumming that your soil is "average" in terms of mineralization, one way to obtain more depth is a larger coil. Not only will a larger coil run deeper, but it will also cover more area. The trade off is that it won't be as sensitive to smaller targets as a smaller coil, and if you run into an area of higher trash density the possibility of missing smalls due to masking goes up.

Running in Prospector Mode will also get you more depth, but you also lose the TID. You can limit the amount of iron that it responds to with the IM adjustment, but you'll need to do some testing to know just where to set it so that you don't miss items that you might want to find.

As a side note: On a lark, I've played around with Prospector Mode with the 3kHz 15" at hard hunted sites, just to see if it would root out deep stuff missed by others. What I found was quite interesting, and will prompt me to play with it some more. As you may know, 3kHz isn't known for it's ability on nickels, but in Prospector Mode things are quite different. I started hitting deep nickels that had been missed by everyone, including me with various coils and settings. It was a total suprise. But since I went into the endeavor with no peticular expectation, I must say that it was a pleasant suprise.

Keep thinking outside the box. And don't be afraid to experiment.
All of the available coils/frequencies and setting options of the 705 is what you paid for, and what makes the 705 such a flexible/versitile machine.

I always thought that All Metal mode gave me a bit more depth.
I sometimes still switch it to AM if the target signal is weak

I notch out the lowest at highest TID number and run my sensitivity at 30 as long as conditions permit. Occasionally I have to drop the sensitivity just a bit but that's not very often.
