Got the rug pull 2 times today, but found a 1971 50 cent cowen. The 50 cent was next to a nail , and I debated weather I should dig it, but glad I did.

Ya, one is tungsten the other plated pot metal

Ya,it's old gold from better days, that's coming up

Those are some great finds Gunnar! That area seems to have some age to it with finding that square nail. There may be some silver amongst them.

Oof, I know that “rug pull” feeling—those plated/tungsten rings can look so promising in the ground. Nice save on the ’71 half though, especially being next to a nail… that’s exactly the kind of target most of us second-guess.

Square nail + a half in the same spot usually means there’s more older stuff hiding in there. If you keep hitting that area, you might still pull some silver (or the occasional real ring) once you work different angles and slow the sweep down a bit.

If you do end up finding anything stamped 10K/14K/18K and want a quick melt-value sanity check, this scrap gold value calculator is pretty handy: https://mygoldcalc.com
