More GS5 Gold

Another short message from the Australian user who I have reported on before.

Eric.

I finally had a day out for 4 pieces weighing a total 4 dwt from very hot ground with many hot rocks. The largest piece @ 1.75 dwt came with the Coiltek 24in UFO mono and the rest with the Commander 8 inch mono in ground which I had covered well with small mono coils originally with the 2200 and later with the 3500 in sensitive. Although this ground had not previously yielded, I decided it was worth another look as it was close to ground which had yielded small gold.

With the 8 inch coil all gold signals were faint, with one sounding like a faint ground noise which did not improve until I put the edge of the coil 6 inches down the hole. There were scrap targets but no 22 bullets or BB's which indicates that the ground had been carefully gone over.

G'day Eric,

This is a very informative post because I have never used a larger coil than the NF 14" Ellip. mono on my GS5, since I basically use it for prospecting new areas, areas of high EM interference, trash, etc..

Every time I use the GS5 it puts a smile on my face because it brings back memories, when I used the old White's GM II with its ease of handling..

Anyway, 6" plus on a dwt nugget (or less) using an 8" mono coil in hot Australian ground seems pretty good to me. I will do some experimenting with the larger coils on my GS5 when I go to Arizona this winter..

Thanks for the report,

--Jim F.--

Wow that is pretty impressive Eric. It seems that your GS5 is making some inroads to Australia. I hope it keeps up the great work. I know you have worked hard with the GS5. Congrats to you.
