More on Omega Ground Bal.

This post mainly applies to FL and probably TX hunters.
Anyway, I did the GBal thing with my new Omega and got
a surprise. I called Teknetics and spoke to a Tech because
no what I did, even pushing the pos and neg buttons I still
got weird readings. I guess I was spoiled with the XLT
because Grnd Bal was so easy to do without all these
questions.
He said that South Florida has zero or next to zero
mineralization so that O8 couldn't GBal because there
wasn't any mineralization present.
difference. Also he didn't think that power lines about
80 yds away would interfere with the O8.
Maybe Monte can chime in.

Look in the Omega manual. If the machine can't get a GB of 40 or more then ground grab won't work. If your manually setting the GB I would watch the GB meter, and consider it GB'd when the meter shows no bars either upwards or downwards. Make sure there is no metal in the ground where your GB'ing.
I'm gonna guess the GB for your area is between 0-10.

there are ten (10) steps between each whole number. The Gold Bug Pro and G2 show these individual steps with a decimal number reference, such as 45.0 or 45.4 or 45.7, etc. The Omega only shows the whole number, but the fractional adjustment is still adjustable.

For example, turn on your Omega and you will see a Ground Phase number. Very quickly, touch the + or - touch-pad and continue with that same + or - pad until the Ground Phase just gets to a different number. Let's say you use the + touch-pad and slowly increase the Ground Phase GB reference to '84'.

Next, to make sure you didn't hold the touch-pad and quickly scroll through the numbers, quickly tap the - touch-pad one time and make sure it shows '83', then one quick touch of the + pad takes you to '84'. You will actually be at 84.0, it just doesn't show the fractional part.

Now, presuming you have just barely adjusted for '84' (which is 84.0), make a very quick tap of the + touch-pad to increase the Ground Phase reference. You will not see a change, but it takes it to '84.1' and, if you tap the + touch-pad 6 more times you will be set at '84.7'. One more will be '84.8', then next will be '84.9', and then the 10th press of the + touch-pad adjusts the Omega to a Ground Phase read-out of '85'.

There are 1000 'steps' in the Ground Phase adjustment with the Omega and Gamma. The T2 has 500 steps since the increase or decrease would be .2 each time, but the Omega and Gamma increase or decrease .1 with each quick touch-pad press. A brief press so that is doesn't quickly scroll.

Until learned, many newcomers to the Omega have difficulty making a manual GB adjustment because they linger just a bit too long on the + or - touch-pads and the quick scrolling makes a too radical GB adjustment.

Thanks Terra, for the tip "that the O8 will not ground
balance if the ground display is less than 40. Couldn't
find it in the manual.
And thanks Monte.
I'm still trying to figure out relationships between Barograph, Machine's Internal Setting,
and Ground Error. By the way what defines "phase?"
Lastly, my O8 does NOT get a smooth threshold sound. Static and jumpy.
