First real run with my new Digger coil last Saturday, 1896 Barber nickel, up on top of a mountain, and that's how I felt after finding it. Popular spot for folks to recreate since the 1870's.

Nice way to start...WTG...I am,as usual envious.never found one,buff's are my oldest nickel,merc oldest dime,Washington oldest quarter......

Thanks, my oldest coin before that was an 1899 IH

: Congratulations on the great find. :beers:

That's not a Barber Nickel,,,, That's a V Nickel and Congrat's on the very nice V nickel. That one cleaned up real nice...

Thanks, it was really not bad right out the hole. I thought that the Liberty Head, V, and Barber nickel are all the same coin.

nope, their is no Barber nickel but their is a Barber dime, quartet and half tho, but the true name for that nickel is Liberty Head nickel but most everybody calls it a V nickel.

Yeah that is a liberty nickel and a big congratulations to you on finding it.

Still confused. Even though it was designed by Barber, it is not recognized as a Barber. I did a search on "Barber Nickel" and the search came back"Barber Liberty Head".

was the Chief engraver of the Mint designed this nickel, a dime, a quarter and a half dollar. Lady Liberty adorns the face of all four coins. Whether it be called a Liberty Head Nickel, V-Nickel or Barber nickel.......they are all one in the same. HH Randy

Thanks 7centsworth, guess I need to change the subject title, not sure if a person is able to. Great to have a forum to learn from others more knowledgeable. Thanks everyone for the congrats.

Not confused anymore, Thanks Randy. Your E-book is excellent reading, I find myself going back to it frequently. Need to get back to Northern IA to hunt my grandparents farm, they are gone but my uncles are still there. Mark in MT.
