Motion vs. Non-motion detecting mode. Finally got it!

Well, For the life of me didn't see any difference between Motion vs. Non-motion detecting mode until this evening. Finally got it!

I knew non-motion just didn't appear like it should based from my Non-Motion Recon it just sounded different thought I was making the correct adjustment with the Shift and Non-Motion keys on the ATX, Then, Today reread the manual played with the Shift and Non-Motion keys and finally got it seen my error :blink:

Allot to learn with the ATX more features than the Recon, Looking forward to using Non-Motion for certain areas actually like it sounds just like the Recon.

I had a bit of a hard time knowing if I was in motion mode or non-motion mode on the ATX. I sat down one evening at home, went through the manual again and paid more attention to what I was doing. It finally clicked and I could now switch back and forth between motion and non-motion mode. When in motion mode, the LEDs tend to be constantly on the move. However, when in non-motion the LEDs stay fixed. I took a photo of how the LEDs should show, and comparison graph of non motion with different sensitivity settings. I did a comparison graph with the depth comparing motion vs. non motion depth with the same settings, however, they somehow got destroyed, but the depth was definitely better in non-motion mode.

I bet others out there with the ATX probably think they are in non-motion mode but really are not, It's a simple error and why I knew something was not right was because having own a Recon my ATX just didn't sound like it was in non-motion mode the audio was motion.

You're right, The non-motion mode is deeper and more sensitive. But, this extra power is good for certain areas for instances like low mineralization, larger open areas it's another neat tool for ATX users to use especially in areas when not having to hit the retune button often in the non-motion mode.

The Recon prepared me for the ATX, Took to the ATX right out of the gate :)

You are lucky to have taken Recon Pro 101 :nerd:. Most everyone else had either taken VLF 101 or PI 101 :blink:. There's lots to learn on the ATX and not all the tricks are in the manual.
 
When I was doing some comparison tests between the motion mode and non motion mode, I was getting readings at targets at 26" depths and greater for some targets. It actually sounded too good to be true. What it was, was my detector lying horizontal with the coil at 90 degrees. At full sensitivity, running some targets underneath the coil, I was actually getting signals from the Garrett headset I was wearing. Glad I didn't post those results, as I would have gotten a lot of questions as to why no one else is getting similar results.

Hey Paul,

I can use the ATX in NMM in very hot dirt as long as I am out of town back in the woods/desert...it does not do too well in town as you have to retune it a lot, but it can be used in town by reducing the sensivity but then you might as well keep it in MM then. Best used for slow slow swing speed to get a bit more depth and sensitivity out in the bush.

Thanks bearkat for the non motion tip, I like it as long it has miminum retuning. I took to NMM right away due to the Recon. But most conditions use MM.

Actually use the 5X10" DD more than the stock coil, Has a good feel much lighter swing in fact a pound lighter than the stock coil.

Hey Paul..you'll know when your in non motion by the tone..

In non motion it's one tone high or low with no echo..

In motion it's got the echo tone..

Hi Keith,

Yes I got the non-motion tone down ok what it was is wasn't getting the switch over from MM to NMM down at first from the touch pads, Was an error on my part then after going over the manual again one night it clicked!

Haven't have time to detect here lately but will in a few days, Got to work to pay the pays ;)
