Mounted in an in-line Probe to my GoldQuest last night..

Hello,
First, Thank you Mr. Bill for selling me the GoldQuest probe Eric made, I know from your letter it appears Eric may not make the probe coil in the future. Eric you did an outstanding job with great workmanship in making this GQ probe, I've never seen a probe as good as this one.
The probe arrived yesterday and took me about 3 to 4 hours to complete the set-up, Could have been quicker mounting in the probe but since my unit is completely waterproof I had to do the same with the probe but the end result was well worth the extra effort. A waterproof switch is what quickly separates the signal from the coil to the probe.
Just from bench testing the probe will easily respond to a tiny gold nugget making this add on feature a killer set-up for nugget hunting out in the desert or find those tiny gold ear-rings while beach hunting, I don't see how I could have survived much longer without this neat probe set-up.

The probe is a cool "Yellow" in color, Weight is super light as a feather <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

Glad you like the probe. It looks really neat on your waterproof Goldquest. Looks like you are ready for the water or the desert, and anything in between <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
Probes are on the agenda for the near future, and now that I have got some additional mechanical effort, I can easily slot a few into production.
On the coil/probe switch, do you have additional damping resistors? I found that unless you also damp the unused sensor, the field from the active one can induce ringing, which can give rise to some strange responses. e.g. if you had the main coil near the hole in which you were using the probe. However, if it works OK, I shouldn't worry.

Here is what Eric's Goldscan looks like with switchable probe. I am going to modify some to make more sensitive and it has some interesting discriminating abilities!!!

yes, I didn't know of any but Reg, but this one came up for a ridiculous price and I bought it, am going to do some mods per Reg.

After using the probe today it sure made recovery more pleasant, What a big difference <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)">
Didn't need to add on an additional damping resistor, Both the coil and probe show no interference working together out in the field today. Luckily no problems occurred near the switch, flipping between the probe and coil was flawless in the audio. I used left over coil cable to fasten the switch and both coil and probe. So everything inside the housing is neatly connected with shielded coil cable. Maybe this helped?

She's a beauty and appears to be a winner out in the gold field, The probe is an excellent feature just can't see how I've gone so long without one <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

Hi Don,
Looks in good condition for a machine that is at least 10 years old. It could have come into the US via Accurate Locators or Calgold, who had a few back then. It looks like a Pulse Technology version, from the different mounting of the rear box. Is the serial number still on it? It was on the underside of the main control box.

All the production Goldscans were set to 15uS.
Funny about the probe. It was wired in through a gland and clipped under the rear box when not in use. From the feedback I had at the time, it appeared that most people did not use it, so in the later models I left it off. Whenever I went detecting, like you, I found it invaluable in speeding up recovery.
In recent years probes seem to have become more popular.

Eric it is one, I think, made by you, it has Goldscan on side and has white coil. I used a stock photo, mine is in excellent shape, does not have the 8" coil, yes, I think it is around mid ninety's model, didn't realize those firms ever handled them. I bought it from a man in Wyo.
 
Mine was made by PulsePower Products, serial # 9507011. If I understand correctly Pulse Technology also makes it and uses Goldscan 4 on side plate.
My charger is different! it can be set 120-240V and is by Pulse Technology. Eric posted wiring to power these by 120V, this is already that way, assume Assie is only 240V, maybe was build for here. Guy I bought it from was named "Don" don't remember last, he had it apparently a few years and used it for prospecting, didn't ask him where he got it. Has had light use, has no scratches.
