Looks like spring is finally here. It's been in the 40's and 50's F the past few days and looks like it will continue in the 40's for at least a week.

I couldn't dig very deep (1"), but still had fun and learned some more about my X-Terra. Used the 5x10 DD HF all day. Many different settings. Used both C&T and Prospecting modes. Even manually ground balanced a few times.

Started off checking out a couple of old hotel sites. Didn't detect, just got the lay of the land for later.
Dad broke the backhoe digging an ice plug out of a culvert. Found the broken, buried pieces quickly.
I then moved on to the local park and school grounds. The two pictures below are my good stuff and my junk. Some clad, my first car(s), and a rimfire case that I haven't seen before. I found out that it is .17 HM2.

Almost forgot...I also found a small (2lbs?) sledgehammer next to a tree in the park. It has a broken handle, but that's easy to fix.

Because of the frozen ground, I'm still leaving MANY targets for later. I'm not sure that the town park has ever been detected before.

At least you can get out. Some parts of the country are still iced or snowed in I think.

Your find of the sledge reminds me of a find I made last year. I had been looking for crowbar in my barn. Couldnt find it. Couple days later I was detecting an old farm site and got a big hit. Dug down about 5 inches....dug up a large crowbar. The same size of the one I couldnt find at home. A bit rusted but it easily cleaned up and I had another usuable crowbar. Just seemed a bit convenient though. <laugh>

Yep..I could get out. That's what my post was all about.

We've had about 6 weeks of high temps of 0 or below this winter. It's been cold. It'll take a while to thaw it out. BUT, since I'm finding shallow stuff NOW...and leaving good targets for later....I'm pretty excited for the warm season.(especially since I bought my first detector in December).
