Bought the MX Sport three weeks ago and have been doing causual hunting at local parks. I was out of hunting for a few years but was primarily a Vaquero and Sea Hunter MKII Hunter. So, tone and beep machines. Visual screens are basically new to me. Some things I've noted with the Sport:
Good:
1. It's a good, solid and deep machine.
2. It has great pin pointing.
3. It's an acceptable saltwater beach machine. At least here in FL. My beaches are full of nails so I stopped using my PI all together, though that was my primary hunting for years in CA and I would dig everything.
4. Waterproof!
5. Great balance and long battery life.
6. Grounding is a breeze.
7. Tons of options to play around with.
Bad:
1. On my unit I almost always have to "double clutch" the pin pointer to get it on. So, turn it on then off then on again. Annoying but not worth sending it in right now.
2. Loves bottle caps, but I think that's been gone over to death.
Aside from the beach, I've been hunting in coin mode with a few things notched out. I vary the sensitivity after i hit an area, bumping it up to go back for the deep stuff. I kept a journal of a few hunts with readings and depths of finds if anyone is interested.
I haven't found any gold yet, but that's not unusual. I'm really interested in anyone who has found gold with the Sport in coin mode and what tones they were getting. In my tests I usually see it around 22 for a 10k four inches down in soil. If anyone finds some gold with a sport please chime in and tell me where on the gauge it was hitting. Thanks!
Here's some finds not including the many, many fittings, bottle caps and can slaw I've dug so far. Some good wheats, silver, baubles and lots of clad. I figure I can fill that huge pickle jar in a few months. Not pictured, half a dozen .50 Cal shells.
