MXT 300 issue (simillar to dirtdigginlady's)

I just purchased a new MXT 300 (all dealer had he swapped 12" for 950 so that is what im using) i have noticed the 300 to be more sensitive to powerlines and cell phones than my original MXT. at preset gain it starts doing a (wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa) and display goes crazy and impossible to work with by cell phones or powerlines mostly i have to crank the gain down to a 5 for it to get a constant normal hum sound just nuts. i never had problems in same areas with my old mxt so i have know idea what is going on. i do know if i disconnect my coil it goes back to a constant hum. i will have another coil to try in a few days just in case i got a bad coil by chance.

On our weekend hunt I hunted with 2 MXT's and two Visions. Dirtdigginlady's problem wasn't a problem we had. Nancy even came over to check to see if we could get the detectors to cross talk. Nancy heard nothing and I could just barely hear a slight signal as her coil came closer on her swing. I was running zero disc and had my MXT at +3 gain. We were 8 to 10 feet apart

Kirklyn did you switch to relic trigger centered? If it quiets down there is nothing wrong just EMI. I've got several sites like this. One is close to a transformer, and one is close to one of those giant sports fields lights. Rob

Cellphone may have to be turned off as it could be part of the problem.

With my headphones on it is hard to hear my phone ring so I leave the phone on and when I get an incoming call the interference is heard thru my headphones and I answer the phone. As for power lines I just reduce my gain setting until I move away from the interference then I will increase my gain settings....The interference is an annoyance more than anything but it does not prevent me from continuing the hunt. I have never had the display go grazy as you discribe. HH Dennis in Idaho

Yes! i changed every variable including turning off phone and leaving in the the house. Problem was at my home doing the same things ive done hundreds of times checking out a new machine with a spread out test bed and never had an issue like this before. so what was it! i removed coil, cord and all then reinstalled blowing out connector and tightening then testing. problem solved. i remember the ace 250 acting funny whth a loose cord so this was similar to that. But all seems to be fine now. thanks to all who replied kirklyn.

9 times out of 10 strange problems turn out to be the simplest thing. Could have been so debris in the connection do you think? When you said you blew out the connector did things seem to fit tighter?

Definitly! i had played with cord and connector before the post but didnt try to blow out connector at that time. i even checked under coil cover to make sure nothing was there from experience in the past. thanks again all!

Could have been so manufacturing debris I guess. Good information either way thank you.
