MXT and the Whites Super 12' coil ???

WOW ! Glad you are able to use one. In my yard,i make one pass with my 950 and get 30 hits.I had to put my 4X6 on so i could separate the targets LOL. I have a bit over 150 years of trash/treasure just in my yard alone (setteled in 1856) LOL.........

So far I haven't gotten anything deeper than I have with the stock coil, however many say they have, and it should, without missing small targets. I haven't really given it a good workout yet but I will be using it in April on a Louisiana Bayou hunt on 85 acres. That should answer it for me. I got it more to cover ground faster like in the woods or trying to track down a place long gone. The added depth would be a bonus.

I've used my Spider 12" three times so far and have no complaints with it. Ground balances great, pinpoints perfectly and weighs light. No complaints from me with it.

I guess like any larger coil you will at times pickup more that one item. To me it was hard to separate items that were close. I guess that I why I thought it was too noisy. Got rid of it and haven't missed it. My Eclipse 5x10, 8" EX DD and the 4.5"x7"EX are all I need.

I got mine and absolutely love it! I went to a spot I found and had pretty well dug all i could from it with my 6x10 dd coil and Mxt. So i knew anything that came from the site would have to be deep. My first 4 targets were 36 caliber teardrops ranging from 8 to 10 inches. I got another faint signal and thinking it was another teardrop i was surprised to find a 1899 Barber Qtr. at a good 10 to 12 inches.

Do you have good ground (<50 in prospect mode) moderate ground (50 to 70) or bad ground 70+ ?
I really think it makes a difference in whether this coil will go deeper than the stock or not.

I've used mine in 50-55 ground, and have not gotten any better depth than with the stock coil. Same result when air testing as well. I'm considering trying the 18" excelerator coil with my MXT, but based on what I've been reading I think I may be disappointed with that coil too, especially with the price I'd have to pay. Comments?

Ok, you've got the same kind of ground I do. I would recommend getting the 14" dd Excelerator or 10X14. This is what I'm going to do, based on my recent experience with DD coils. They will give better depth in moderate to bad ground. The problem with the Super 12 in our ground is it picks up more of the mineralized ground and makes it harder to cancel out, therefore reducing the optimal depth. For moderate ground and using a dd coil you can pretty much apply the size of the coil is equal to depth you'll get on a coin size target (quarter size or equivalent mass in my experience, depending on orientation of the target in the ground of course). In better ground, it seems this is the rule with the concentrics. This all based on my personal experience, your mileage may vary based on your experience.

I've already tried the 10x14 and had the same results as with the S12. I'd be willing to try the 14" excelerator, but hate to fork out that much money unless I can get some positive feedback from an experienced user that tested it in similar ground, unless I can find a good used one somewhere. So am I hearing you say that the 14" would do better than the 18" for my application? Thanks again ..... Bill

The 10x14 I mentioned using was not the excelerator, but the White's eclipse 1400DD coil. Like I said, I didn't get any better performance out of that one than the stock coil either. Now I guess my question is would the 14" concentric or 10"x14" excelerator work better in the 50-55 ground I'm hunting in? I would tend to think the 10x14 might do better.

I have no personal experience with the 10X14 either, but going on the assertion that it will behave largely like a larger, more capable 6X10 (which I do have and have come to rely on), then I would say that your assumption should be spot on. It should be less sensitive to mineralized ground, but have a little more penetration, owing to its larger size. My problem has been getting a meaningful appraisal from somebody that has used one. I could really use one to hunt, "hunted out" relic sites. I've talke to a guy in Missouri that has used the 14" dd and he loves it, says he's found a minnie ball at 10". But, I've got to wonder if his ground isn't a little better than ours.
