MXT PRO - Dirty Finds

We were out camping and doing some metal detecting over the weekend. Here's my "keeper" finds. As you can tell, they're not washed. 14 Wheats, 1944 quarter, 1952 Rosie and 2 sterling .925 rings. I honestly didn't want to come home. I think we all had a great time. I was using the "new to me" MXT Pro. HH and Thanks for looking, Nancy

Good haul, what coil did you use on the Pro?

Had a great weekend with wonderful friends! The 14 wheats are from 1924 to 1958.

I'm pretty sure it's the 9.5. It's a great all around coil.

Hi Nancy, Glad you had a good time. I have the MXT, got mine when they first came out. I know you sent yours in awhile ago to get it cleaned and now it is gone back. Do you like the MXT Pro as well as the first MXT? I have been thing about getting another MXT or MXT pro, I can't here the tones very well but the back light might be nice. Dose the PRO work like the MXT? I HAD A GUY TRY TO BUY MY OLD mxt BUT I WON'T SELL, I LOVE IT. Just was wondering if the PRO is the same. Flintstone

Hi Flintstone,

To be honest, I don't like it as much as my old MXT but to be fair, I've not used it much either. I am learning more each time I use it. It feels like a very good machine. Seems like the VDI numbers are off by 2 but that could be the coil I'm using on it. I'm with you, I won't get rid of my MXT and I believe mine is as old as yours. If you don't use the tone I.D., I would stick with another MXT. As for the back light. No night hunting for me, so that's useless to me. I wish I had a better answer for you, but I've only used it a handful of times.

Thanks Nancy, I think I am going to try and find a good used MXT for a back up for the one I have. I wish they had not stop making the MXT, but thinks need to keep being up dated. I have had no trouble with my MXT, but don't know things do get old like me. Good luck with the MXT PRO, flintstone

Rich, Your question made me smile. I was using the 9.5 coil. I'm still trying to get use to the machine and we were hunting a spot that hadn't been hunted before and it had very little trash. Thanks and HH, Nancy

Nancy, what settings (discrim) do you use (and gain level) when simply hunting yards?

When I first start a place, I "cherry pick" and discrimination is set about 6. With this setting it will pick up the jumpy signals of an Indian cent. Then the gain is about 8-9. After I'm done with the high picks, I will set the discrimination at 3 for the nickels, rings, etc. Usually only IF it's clean ground. If it's a junky place, I usually just stick with "cherry picking" the high tones/VDI.

Yes Frank. I have really taken a liking to it. But it will never be the replacement for my old MXT. It's a good machine. Both are great machines.
