My 12x15 SEF Review

Hi all! I have been using my new 12x15 SEF coil for a few weeks now. It's seen about 30 hours of swinging. I figured the community deserves a review, because I know when I was coil shopping, I read every review I could find.

First of all, with this coil I have unearthed about 30 buttons, 5 copper largies, a silver ring, an antique boot pistol, 5 dollars in clad, tons of junk, and several other random artifacts.

Pros :
  • Able to save time by covering more area in a shorter amount of time, which makes it ideal for fields.
  • Considering the size of the coil, target seperation is really good.
  • I am still able to run the E-Trac hot (Manual sens @ 30) with no additional falsing or wrap-around signals; it's equivalent to the stock coil in this respect.

Cons:
  • It's heavy. My forearms get a workout. It's becoming more tolerable as my muscles progressively get stronger.
  • The weight of the coil makes the lower shaft on the E-Trac struggle to stay in place. I had to modify the hold-in lever to make up for the extra stress.
  • So far, depth with this coil is the same as the stock coil; more time will be needed for further confirmation of this.

i run this coil all the time as i work pasture at the moment i agree with pros 1 and 2 i have no idea how you are running it at manual 30 well done for that i take my hat off to you just started with manual and 24 is my max so far ok cons yes heavy but i also have got used it and 2 i agree totally had to make a thin plastic washer oh sorry my partner has made me a thin washer which has kept the coil much more sturdy and 3 cant really work this one out as i think you would have to have two etracs running one after the other to prove extra depth as you just dont know if your missing anything as you have missed it so it will take abit of proving glad you are enjoying coil i know i am any more tips just let um go happy hunting

Question.Lets say someone loaned you this coil, and then wanted to sell it to you for regular price.Would you purchase it after using it?Thanks charlie

Longest sentence ever!!

Anyways, I have been running the E-Trac hot for about a year now, and I have found that with so much sensitivity, the machine will pick up deep stuff that auto will miss. (When I have a deep target I switch to compare) I don't want to miss anything, so I run hot all the time. Just like with the procoil, while running hot the 12x15 beeps a bit more here and there, but with the right discrimination and careful, slow swings, it's not so bad.

You're right about the depth thing... I guess the only way to truly test it is to have 2 E-tracs - each with their respective coils - compare signals.

I would expect some kind of price reduction. Used is used!
