I got this on a hunt with Terri (Echostar61) yesterday when we hunted an old church (Friends Meeting House). It's a 1901 & I'm tickled to death.....looking forward to finding something else I never have.

Sorry about the poor quality pics, but the coin is in great condition.. Also found this small protractor. I think I've ever seen....3.25" long & 1.5" tall. I'm wondering if it wasn't "handmade", there's no manuf name on it, and the numbers stamped on it were done by hand, because they're somewhat crooked & unevenly spaced.

Your pics are fine, and that Indian Head is in excellent shape. I am thrilled
you found it :clapping:. You may be paying for the 2 hunts in 2 days, but
great finds like that will have you looking foward to the next one ;).
Thanks Smitty for another Fun Hunt :cheekkiss:

Thanks! I'm going to "practice with my camera & see if I can get better at it. These pics were scanned, so I don't know if there are any settings I can change on my (cheap) scanner to improve the quality or not?

lol, I am (paying) Terri, trust me . Didn't want to run the errands today I needed to, but now I can take it easy for the next few days & recoup......and hope for another break in the weather so we can do it all over again :twodetecting: Thanks again for another good time & fun hunt!

Beale, do you (or anyone else) have any thoughts on this protractor? Could it have been a kids for school? Or for a machinists use?

Smitty

It could have been a kids protractor.

I think the ones I used as a kid were about that size.

It could have been for drafting.

Protractors come in many different sizes.

That one looks really old.

Thanks TD, I'd gotten another response that aligns with the "school" thought, and in addition some of them were enameled.

Smitty thats a great first..........Congrats...

Nice Indian. Doesn't even look like it has any corrosion on it. You can't find 'em if you don't get out there. :detecting:

Hey, that looks pretty decent for a dug IHC.

Very cool old protractor, too... I used to carry one like that to school, which had belonged to a great uncle. It was a Keuffel & Esser brand (sp?), and a nice antique one.

Thanks everyone! Coinnut, it did have alittle, and was alittle green around the edge, until I used a method Terri told me about. I poured about 1" of peroxide in a coffee mug & microwaved it until it ws good & hot, then removed the mug (from the microwave) and placed the coin in the hot peroxide. It fizzed for several minutes, and when it cooled & rinsed it off it came-out clean as a whistle.

I've looked all over the protractor & can't find any type of makers mark on it.

Thaks again

Ahh, yes. The Peroxide Method. I only learned that recently, maybe last year.

It's not bad. Kind of like electrolysis without the electrolysis rig.
