Took a lunch break with my md'n bro Tom (he has an F75) and we decided to do some swinging in an old western Iowa park. We figured that this place had been hit pretty hard, and we were right, no wheats, no clads, I mean nothing! The grass was about 2 inches high, we were getting discouraged. But then, my friends, I happened to get one of those iffy 36,37,38 signals at the low end of the depth gauge, so I pulled out the x-pac (excavation pack) and cut the plug. On the side of the hole, 6 inches below the dirt line was the edge of this coin. I thought indian, but when I pulled it out I initially thought it was a nickel, and then I saw the "2." An 1866 2 cent piece! The pics do not give the condition of this coin justice. Crisp, clear, no wear, and a beautiful green patina. Looks like it was lost in 1866. I am so stoked!
